"A Family Tradition for 130 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 9, 1996 -25 SPORTS Swamp wins broomball crown from Brooklin Saturday evening saw the wrap-up of this season with the third and deciding game 1n the best of three league final between the Brooklin Bruins and the Homelife Swampers. On the opening faceoff it looked like the Bruins were going to walk away with this one as they marched down ice and wound up scoring the games' first goal. Rob Mason led the charge before he passed it to Ron Attwood on the right wing who then relayed it to brother Nick who was left with an empty net, on the other side of the goal crease. The Bruins went up by two before the end of the period with Wayne Tate knocking in his own rebound after Keith Trem- blay had made the glove save on the first shot. Don Jansma was awarded the assist. Tremblay was not the only one coming up with the big saves as Roger Rouselle in the Brooklin nets made two toe saves early on in the peri- od thus thwarting Mike Butt and Brian The second half of the game was all Swampers as they tallied three goals, two of them on powerplays to emerge the victors on a 3-2 score. Their first goal was on the powerplay with Jason Price standing on the door step receiv- ing a pass from Mike Mole. A minute later they tied the score with Brian Rob- inson setting up Brian Pomeroy on a shot that handcuffed Rouselle. The fi- nal goal saw Butt put it in the top cor- ner with Rouselle unable to see it, nor quick enough to get the glove up to make the save. Dan Taylor was award- ed the assist for his pass ahead to Butt. In the dying seconds it looked like Brooklin was going to tie it up with Ken Lynde sending a centering pass over to Luc Collard only to see Tremblay slide across and stop it on his chest. The annual banquet takes place at the Oddfellows Hall on Saturday, April 20 and then it's only five more months until the 1996-97 season. KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STA? ALL DURHAM CHAMPS. The R. H.
