20- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 9, 1996 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" DHC hopes to strike committee The Durham Region District Health Council (DHC) is preparing to launch a project that will result in a comprehensive health promotion plan for Durham Region. Work on the health pro- motion plan will begin lat- er this spring, and will be developed in consultation and cooperation with com- munities in the Durham Region and is expected to be completed in early 1997. The health of individu- als and communities has traditionally been linked to the degree of access that people have to doctors and hospitals. Health promo- tion goes one step further. It considers the personal, social, economic and envi- ronmental factors that in- fluence the health and well-being of individuals, their families and their communities. "It is vital that commu- nities plan together, not only for medical and 1ll- ness care services, but for health promotion and community development. By addressing these as- pects of health in the short term we are investing in a healthier population in the longer term," said DHC Chair Gerry Blake. "There are numerous groups and organizations now in Durham Region that promote health. In preparing the DHC's Health Promotion Plan we is AT look forward to working and planning with those people as well as with any- one else who would like to be involved." The first step in devel- oping the Health Promo- tion Plan will be to strike a Project Steering commit- tee. Anyone interested in this committee or beingin- volved in the planning pro- cess in any way is invited to contact the Durham Re- gion DHC at (905) 433- 4262. ii I DN N iE OSHAWA CENTRE (ACROSS FROM ASAE) | OVER $500,000 | ES IG NER MEN E GLE ARED | Sn INGS { i | i | | { Ir PF . | CHOCSE ERG AN INCREBIBEE ELECTION OF SIZES AN IZES i i ge SE i O52 TALL - MEN'S LONDON FOG TOP COATS "g7°° A SIZE FOR EVERY MAN TER ithe WE CARRY SUIT SIZES FROM 34 TO 52 Tailors - Oshawa Centre IY LR RAE ELE CIV oF: JR JP Ho 0 BL Ho To) "(oT POR Co J of dF [0 Holo THe Holo) CENT] EVR Be Jo Ho To) Io 8 'OPEN: KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STAR AND THE WINNER IS.
