Accord- ing to the group its decline may suggest ecological problems. ) As a group these natu- ralists have set their goals to encourage the osprey to reproduce in the Kawar- tha Lakes region; to repair and maintain existing and future platforms and to re- place destroyed nesting platforms. The group hopes to in- form the younger genera- tion on how to help nature in repairing natural habi- tats. During the winter of 1996 the group undertook many projects including new nesting platforms near the mouth of the Scu- gog River and just off the east shore between Snug Harbor and Pickerel Point. One old nesting platform was moved and replaced in Goose Bay and two other repaired in the same area. This summer the group will be monitoring and counting nesting sites in all the Kawartha Lakes area. Anyone interested in helping is asked to call (705) 738-6271.
