Owners Bob and Cathy Sampson have actively been involved with Mor- gan horses for more than two decades. The evolu- tion of their modern equine complex has been a labor of love, hard work and dedication, spanning some 23 years. Today, the Sampsons are noted authors of many unique programs at the farm, including the Equine Companion Pro- gram, Foundation Train- ing and Owner-Assisted Training. In addition, the farm publishes its own newsletter known as The Trillium Banner with a distribution of over 600. These educational meetings were received so enthusiastically, that the farm began an initial se- ries of workshops, devel- oped for the general horse owner at large. At present, the Trillium Morgan Horse Farm has successfully hosted more than 50 workshops, cover- ing a vast agenda of topics and themes, everything from rider psychology to photography. Attendance has come from as far away as Indianapolis in the south to Thunder Bay in the north. For a number of sea- facilities have been donat- ed to the Durham East 4- H Horse Club as their headquarters. As well, this keen group of future horse owners, have access to the farm's horses for their learning sessions. As education has be- come a major focal point at the farm, so has been the Equine Foundation of Canada, a registered char- ity. Through their efforts, the Trillium Morgan Horse Farm has raised more than $1,500 in dona- tions. Since the Equine Foundation establishes grants for equine research and sponsors scholarships for veterinary students specializing in horses, it, was a logical charity that the farm wished to sup- port. The Association presented the farm with its first and only gold med- al award for breed promo- tion. It is this honor by their peers that the Samp- sons cherish the most. Since the advent of the public workshops, the farm has also been in- volved in numerous open barn functions, including the Great Ganaraska Countryside Adventure and their own Christmas Festival, which in 1995 at- tracted a record atten- dance of 600. This sum- mer, the farm 1s embarking on a mammoth historical project in which their indoor arena walls will become the easels of local and other participat- ing artists, in a contest to depict the breed's long and fascinating history. As these major activi- ties require alot of prepar- ation and assistance, the Sampsons decided to ac- knowledge the volunteer 'spirit of those who have given so generously of their time and effort. Ear- lier this month, they pre- sented their first Trillium Fellowship Award and "In Appreciation" awards to a dozen people. This award ceremony marks the farm's commitment to rec- ognizing the dedication of others who have contrib- uted to its many appealing and successful yearly events.
