The local group of ma- ture students is currently preparing plans for a July 1 event, which will see a parade leave from the Port Perry Fairgrounds and travel along Simcoe and Queen Streets to the lake. The group has many ideas in store for the pa- rade, including the ap- pearance of radio and tele- vision stations, who will perform either live re- motes or television spots. Some floats have al- ready been verified for the day of the parade, includ- A Seagrave woman is upset with the theft of her husband's truck, which was parked at a local carpool, and she's warning other commut- ers to be aware. Rosalind Stephens, of Robinglade Estates, told the Star their $20,000 truck was stolen from the carpool area at the corner of Shirley Rd. and Simcoe St. after being left there Saturday night by her husband Ken. "I'm sick to my sto- mach. We worked so hard for that truck and had just paid it off," she said. Mr. Stephens works for Ontario Hydro in Picker-ing and dropped his truck off at the car- - pool about 6:50 p.m. Saturday night. When he returned Sunday morn- ing at 8:30 a.m., the truck was gone. The parade committee, co-chaired by Becky Wat- son, Anna-Marie Timms, Kris Masters and Ike Schulthies, 1s hoping to have 129 separate units take part in the parade to commemorate Canada's 129th birthday. The daytime parade won't be the end of the event for the internship group. A night-time boat parade, at a cost of $5 per boat, is planned to travel the waterfront area prior to the fireworks display in Palmer Park. The Proud To Be Cana- dian Parade was made possible through a govern- ment grant given to the entrepreneurship class, with the condition 1t be put back into the commu- nity. Anyone interested In taking part in the parade, sponsoring a float, mak- ing a donation or volun- teering their time to help is asked to call the Youth Internship Office at 985- 0941. The Youth Internship Program is a new program for mature students at Port Perry High School de- signed to equip those en- rolled with the employa- bility skills they will need to make the transition from high school to work. The program is federal- ly funded, designed and proposed by staff at the lo- cal high school, is open to anyone between the ages of 17 and 24 who is classed as a graduate or a drop- out.
