"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 16, 1996 - 17 £N Sror rs Goreski's Lakeside Rec- reation Peewee II team was host to the annual tournament, Dec. 29. Mar- 1lposa was our first con- tender. This was a hard fought battle as the oppo- sition gained two points in the first. Port was finally on the scoreboard in the second when Matt Sker- ratt gained control and scored unassisted. The game was end to end with Port firing shots upon shots but had no luck against the strong Maripo- sa goalie. The final was 4- 1 for Mariposa. The team knew what they had to do in the sec- - ond game against Oshawa Canadiens, and they did it well. The scoring started in the first. Adam Moynes put one between the pipes with the helper going to Billy Carr. This tied up the game and started our boys in high gear. The second goal of the period went to Mike LeFort assisted by Ian Garnett. This ended the first 2-1 for Port. What a second period for Port. Goals went to Le- Fort, Garnett and two for Matt McGarry. Assists went to Garnett. Joel Thomson, [LeFort, Moynes, Trevor Weisflock, Skerratt (two) and Tyler Houthuys. Defencemen Mike Wadsworth and Scott Duncan showed their fine hockey ability by backchecking and con- stantly out hustling the Oshawa team. The score after the second was 6-1 for Port. The third period showed no mercy for Oshawa. Port gained two more goals both by Matt Cracknell. The first was unassisted, the second was helped by Weisflock. What a game! The final score was 8-1 for Port, putting the team in the Consolation Finals. Innisfil was Port's com- petition for the final game with one loss each for the tournament. The first goal of the game went to McGarry, assisted by Thomson. Innisfil tied up the score shortly after but that didn't stop Weisflock for blasting the second goal with the helper going to Thomson. With more end to end play the rival team managed to score again to tie the game 2-2. The second was the most favorable to Port. "Peewees host tournament Goal scorers were Weis- flock, McGarry, Moynes, and from the point John Burnett. Assists went to Cracknell, Carr (two), Darren Royle, Moynes and Weisflock. Innisfil scored two goals in the third but still came up short with Port win- ning the Consolationwith a score of 6-4. All the boys played exceptionally well with congratulations to both goalies Mike Koury and D'arcy Stephens for a well played game. Billy Carr was named MVP for the game. It's nice to see Darren Royle with those blades on and that cast gone. Good work boys! HANK'S PASTRIES 204 Queen Street, Port Perry 985-2172 'Report from the lanes Tues.
