This was the question that motivated seven Scu- gog residents to prepare a recital in the memory of Jean Kennedy. Jean was appreciated and respected by each of these men who worked with her at Port Perry High, throughout the Scugog Choral Society or on special community projects. Hugh Baird has per- formed extensively throughout Durham re- gion. He settled in Port with his wife Bev, local music teacher and lifetime Scu- gog resident, in 1991 and has taken a great interest in local music projects. Jay Kingis the youngest member of the septet. He is an OAC student at Port Perry High School where he is an integral member of Jazzmerize. Jay also sings with the highly re- garded Orpheus Choir of Toronto. Irwin Smith is very well known as a local enter- tainer. He is an outstand- ing vocal soloist and key- board performer, founder of Port Perry's music store and now has also become Durham's premiere vint- ner. Charles White studied sciences at university but had come to be recognized nationally for his out- standing work particular- ly directing the choral en- sembles at Port Perry High School where he is head of music. Russ Baird rounds out the group of seven. He is a former teacher at Port Perry High School, former Chairman of the Canadi- an Choral Festival and is presently teaching music at O'Neill Collegiate in Oshawa. Together they are Seven Gentlemen of Scugog and would like to share their vocal and choral music with all of Scugog. The concert will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 27,1996 at Town Hall 1873. The pro- ceeds from the concert will be directed toward estab- lishing a memorial schol- arship at Port Perry High School to support and en- courage deserving music students in private study. The scholarship will be dedicated to Jean Kenne- dy and will be known as the Jean Kennedy Schol- arship. Tickets are availa- ble at Jayson Callan Mu- sic Ltd., Queen Street, Port Perry.
