"After much soul searching, I decided the effort and long-term com- mitment required to make the new store successful was not something I could undertake at this stage of my life," said Mr. Dowson. He said he had arranged to sell the assets of his local company to National Grocers, to allow for continued operation of a Valu-Mart until the new store is ready in the fall of 1996. The chain was required to reach an agreement with the land- lord on renewal of a lease for the Valu-Mart, but could not do so. As a result, the building must be vacated by mid- January. "We understand and truly regret the negative impact the unplanned and rapid forced closure of the Valu-Mart will have on the lives of our loyal employees," said Mr. Dowson. "Preference will be given for employment to any unemployed former Valu-Mart employee when the new larger store 1sopen in the fall of 1996." The Best Christmas shopping is right here at home... Gus Macker if invited would come to Port Perry with a complete layout of equipment including lighting and then mark out the courts which would allow a number of teams to play off at one time. Invitations would be sent to various towns and villages in the Durham, east Toronto, Newmarket, Barrie, Orillia, Lindsay, Peterborough and etc. to send teams to participate. This would cover a wide age group. It would be a three day weekend of tour- naments starting Friday night and ending around 4 p.m. on Sunday.
