"Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" 10- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 12, 1995 Snowarama returns to Scugog Scugog organizers hope to raise $5,000 on popular snowmobile charity event By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star After an absence of five years Snowarama 1s returning to + Scugog on January 21. Co-ordinator Marion Lee 1s preparing for at least 400 riders to take part in the run, which raises money annually for the Easter Seal Society. Snowmobilers have raised more than $12 million since 1975 for Easter Seals children. Locally the goal is to raise $5,000 during the 1996 event. Each year snowmobilers set out on a course to raise money for children with disabilities. Locally there are 15 children that the ride will sponsor. Snowarama is being spon- sored by CORSA (Central Ontario Region Snowmobile Associations), which 1s made up of five snowmobile clubs. Cartwright Dynos, The Heart of Ontario, Long Sault, Ganaraska and Port Perry Snowmobile Clubs are co-spon- soring the event. The local clubs will be preparing the trails and will be patrolling during the day to aid riders who run into any mechanical troubles. 100-kilometre course Riders will set out on a 100- km course beginning at 8 a.m. from the Latcham Centre in Port Perry. Out of town riders from Lindsay, Sunderland and Ganaraska areas can sled to "town as part of the course, drop off pledge money and make the loop back home, to save on the number of snowmobiles being trailered to the downtown core. Each participant will receive free meal tickets to be used on refreshments made by the Senior Citizens Club of Port Perry. There will also be prizes for riders based on donations of more than $75. Sponsor sheets can be picked up at any local snowmobile dealerships as well as at the Antrim House, Gord Lewis Motors, Flieler's Petro-Canada and the Port Perry Star. Riders are asked to collect pledge money in advance and turn it over the day of the event. The Port Perry Rotary Club will be handling the adminis- tration and pledge money the day of Snowarama.
