LECH STAR In the second, Port con- tinued to pressure the Ux- bridge defence with their fast skating and diligent forechecking. Their efforts were rewarded when Der- ek Tindall slid one home from in front of the net on a nice pass from Adam Hobbs. In the third, Port added two more goals from Casey Van Schagen and Nick Pe- lyk to close the game with a 4-1 win. Mike Macl.ennan was in net for Port and was un- lucky not to get the shut- out as he was finally beat- en by a blistering slap shot late in the third. On Nov. 6 the Bantams were matched up against Port Hope at the Scugog Arena. The game was end to end as both teams fought for the edge in play. To get things rolling, Port opened up the scoring late in the first on two quick goals by Troy Campbell and Dillan Weber. Assists were picked up by Glenn McCready on Troy's goal and Dave Gainey and Troy Campbell on Dillan's goal. Port Hope managed a goal very late in the period to end the first 2-1 for Port. In the second, Dillan Weber, Port's scoring ma- chine, continued his hot pace as he added two more goals to finish off his hat trick. Port also scored two other goals in the period from Ian Parliament and Troy Campbell. Port Hope kept chipping away and were rewarded with two goals to end the second pe- riod with Port Perry lead- ing 6-3. Single assists in the second period went to Casey Van Schagen, Turnto Page 19 The Port Perry Midget "B" Canadian Tire Islanders travelled to Picton this past weekend to take part in a local tournament and returned home as the B Division winners. The Islanders first game of the day was against West Hill and not only was it their first game but first and only loss of the day as well. After the first two pe- riods went scoreless it was West Hill that got things going in the third period as they banged in two goals to take the win. The Islanders were short a few players for the tournament and it seemed to show as the boys seemed to be a bit out of sync as different line com- binations had to be used. After a brief rest and encouraging words from the coaches the Islanders took to the ice for the second game of the tournament against Brampton. The first period had both teams hav- ing some good scoring chances but were unable to cash in as the Islanders goalie Doug Short and Brampton's goalie were both coming up with the big stop when called upon. The second period had Brampton jump out into a 1-0 lead but the Isles were not about to let this game get away and they turned their game up a notch or two. The hard work finally paid off as Scott Heffern found the back of the net to tie things up at one a piece. Picking up assists on the play were Adam Hunt- er and Captain Trevor Smith. The Isles continued to keep the pressure up and were rewarded for their hard work as Todd Parry fired one home from Ashley Van Shelven to give their team a well deserved 2-1 lead. The game went scoreless into the dying moments of the third period when Brampton pulled their goalie in favor of the extra attack- er. Dave "Boomer" Kamminga would seal the Islander victory as he inter- cepted a Brampton pass and made no mistake firing the puck into the open net to give his team a 3-1 win. This tournament was based on points with a team getting two points for win- ning the game, one point for winning a period and splitting the points if a peri- od or game are tied. The Islanders end- ed up tying with West Hill in points but were regulated to the "B" pool as West Hill had beaten us in head to head play. Also due to the way the points went the Islanders are B champs Isles opponents in the "B" Champion- ship game were to be Brampton whom they had just beaten. The Islanders were a tired lot going into the final game due to their short bench strength but they were not going to be denied the win and came out flying with a total team effort. The first period had the Isles get on the board first as Ashley Van Shelven fired one home from Noah Dorland. The Isles took a 1-0 lead into the sec- ond period and wanted to add to it. This would come as Todd Parry spotted Aa- ron Levy streaking down the wing and fired a lead pass to him. Aaron carried the puck deep into Brampton's end then fed a nice pass to Adam Smith who one- timed it past the Brampton goalie to make it now a 2-0 game for the Isles. Is- lander goaltender Doug Short was once again in net for this game and was com- ing up with quite a few big stops to keep Brampton off the scoresheet and at the end of the second period with a 2-0 lead his team decided that they would try to preserve the shutout for him. This they did very effectively as the defence kept the front of the net cleared, dumped the puck out whenev- er under pressure and never got caught out of position and the forwards did their part also as they backchecked, forechecked and kept Brampton bottled up in their own end for most of the third period. Final score, with the shutout, Is- landers 2 - Brampton 0. The Islanders were each given tro- phies by the Picton Hockey Association for their hard work and were quite de- serving of them. This tounament was a total team effort. The defence pairings of Noah Dorland, Chris Drury and Dave Kamminga with Trevor Smith were sol- id, the forward lines were makeshift due to the player shortage but it was the hard hitting of Ryan Puckrin and Aaron Levy, the hustle and two-way play of Todd Parry. Matt Phillips and Scott Heffern along with the playmakirg of Ashley Van Shelven, Adam Smith and Adam Hunter and finally the steady consistent goaltending of the Islanders lanky goalie Doug Short that made this tournament trip a successful one. The Islanders next home game is on Wednesday, Nov. 22 against Woodville with a 9:15 p.m. start time. fAEEE---- 139 Water St., & 6 High St., Port Perry Written ORT PERRY auto glass & trim Id. 4 e Insurance Work On any one replacement WINDSHIELD Insurance Claim with most insurance companies with this coupon at time of purchase 3 Locations * Mobile Service 985-8507 Port Perry 668-2003 Whitby SAVE wt *50°° All Work Guaranteed Gua rantee RE] SPORTS REPORTS will continue in The Weekend Star AN Hometown
