Hospital administrator Dave Brown said last week that he and his staff are bracing for cuts to their budget which vided to the community. "They're (the province) talking 10 per cent," Mr. Brown said. "that's very significant. "If we had to take 10 per cent out of our budget, that's $600,000; that's a lot of money." Health care has become one of the most hotly-debated topics as the new Progressive Conservative government gives indications of just how far it will go to meet its goal of lowering the provincial deficit and giving Ontarians a 30 per cent tax break, both election promises of Premier Mike Harris. On Friday a report recommended closing or merging a number of Metro hospitals, and it is expected more clo- sures, mergers and realignments could be forthcoming across the province.
