"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, July 18, 1995 - 13 Obituaries Ross Hutchinson won Combat Medal Ross Donald Hutchinson died peacefully after a lengthy illness on March 1, 1995 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Port Perry. He was 64 years old. Ross was born on De- cember 29, 1930 at the Pic- ton Hospital in Picton, On- tario to Gladys (nee Mack) and Llewellyn Hutchin- son. He had two brothers Nelson and Clifford, and one sister Beulah. On August 18, 1950, Ross joined the Canadian Army (Special Forces) to serve In the Korean War. He served with Princess Patricia's second Batta- lion and was decorated with the Volunteer Ser- vice Medal, the Korea Combat Medal and the United Nations Medal. He was Honorably Released on December 31, 1952. Ross married Marilyn Sheila Clark on April 28, 1956 at Wick Presbyterian Church. Ross worked as a me- chanic for 33 years at Beare Motors in Port Norman Birkett, 84 Norman Dorwin Birkett died peacefully on Satur- day, July 1, 1995 at the Oshawa Ceneral Hospi- tal. He was 84 years old. Norm was born on Feb- ruary 8, 1911 in Pickering to Dora (nee Netherton) and John Birkett. He married Ruby Emmeline Manns on March 13, 1937, and to- gether they had three chil- dren, Muriel, Murray and Ivan. Norm worked as a farmer and fittings em- ployee until his retire- mentin 1976. In his younger years, Norm took an active part in the Raglan United Church: He was Sunday School Superintendant, sang in the church choir and was active in commu- nity work. He was a mem- ber of the 1.0.0.F., Bee- thoven Lodge in Brooklin where he held the position of Noble Grand and was a . member of the Columbus Community Church. Norm enjoyed playing cards , camping and play- ing music for dances. A funeral service was held in the Wagg Funeral Home, "McDermott- Panabaker Chapel" in Port Perry on Wednesday, July 5 at 1 p.m. with Rev. John Griffen officiating. Pall bearers were Douglas Manns, Gary Manns, Brian Manns, Ronald Manns, John Manns and Gordon Mahaffy. Burial was in Pine Grove Ceme- tery in Prince Albert. Norm is survived by his' wife Ruby, his children, - Muriel and her husband Gary Tummonds of Oshawa, Murray and his wife Reta of Port Perry, and Ivan of Whitby; his grandchildren Karen, Lar- ry, Judy and Joanne; his great grandchildren Bran- don, Brent and Laura; and his sisters Bernice Kent and Electa Vance, both of Port Perry. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 419 in Port Perry where he served as first Vice President in 1971-72 and as Property Chair- man for 18 years. He was also a member of the Ko- rea Veterans Unit 11 in Oshawa. In his free time, Ross en- Joyed fishing, hunting, gardening, bowling and playing darts. A funeral service was held in the Wagg Funeral Home, "McDermott- Panabaker Chapel" in Port Perry on Saturday, March 4, 1995 with Rev. Robert LePage officiating. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. Ross is survived by his wife Marilyn, his brother Nelson of British Colum- bia, his sister Beulah and her husband Keith Smith of Thornbury, his aunt Kay Brown of Picton and Marilyn's parents David and Helen Clark of Ux- bridge.
