They gathered one last time for their annual banquet last Saturday (May 13). The club handed out their awards to honor some of the hardest working members of the team. A unique part of the ModJack awards is that the players themselves vote who is most deserving in each catego- ry. y This year's MVP of course was no surprise. Quiet leader Keith Leslie distinguished him- self as a class act in Junior C hockey this season, finishing third in the league points race and finishing with only two penalty minutes in regular season action. He led the team on the ice this season and when a big goal was needed, Leslie didn't disappoint. The best defensive player award went to Gavin Cochrane this season after a strong sea- son guarding the MoJack blue line. The veteran showed a lot of skill on the ice. The MoJacks captain even proved to be a versatile player with coach Brad Menzies trying the big skater in front of the net on the power play unit for most of the season. Rookie of the year honors went to defenseman Scott Heasman. On a team that had Awards presented a number of rookies Heasman stood out. Team general man- ager, Murray Parliament, pointed out that defense is a tough position to break into Junior C hockey. The best team player honor was shared by two of the hardest working ModJacks this season. Brad Bagshaw and Todd Dennis showed a lot of heart on the ice for their squad this season and made a big contribution game in-game out. Sluggett Award The Danny Sluggett award, awarded to the MoJack who best contributed on the ice while maintaining a high degree of excellence in school was given to goaltender Rick Hutchinson. Coach Menzies pointed out that the MoJacks. > rv. goaltender played well all sea- son while keeping his average over 80 percent at Trent University. The squad's num- ber one goalie rarely had a bad game, but always followed those up with an excellent effort the following game. Rookie Trevor Bremner was named the hardest working member of the squad. Bremner's energy on the ice was a wonder to watch. He never seemed to run out of gas, but it was always interesting to see what would happen when he got the puck and started to circle. And most improved player over the season went to the tenacious Kevin Vivian. He earned a promotion to the first | MoJacks wrap up season with banquet line with his grit and determi- nation digging the puck out of the corners and mixing it up with some of the biggest players in the league. The banquet offered dinner and a raffle for a MoJacks jer- sey along with the awards pre- sentation. Coach Menzies also introduced each member of the team and they were all given a team photo package to remem- ber the season. They also took a moment to think about Ken Jackson, former owner of Mother Jackson's, the team's sponsor. The team signed a card for the ailing MoJacks supporter who has been in the hospital with health problems recently. 7 dl ____________________
