Tredway twosome right on at Ridley, take two awards By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Two local residents were presented with sports awards from Ridley College recently. Jay Tredway and Heather Tredway, of Greenbank, were both honored at the Lent Term Sports Awards Dinner held on April 5. Jay, a Grade 12 student at Ridley College, was named the 1995 recipient of the Headmaster's Tro- phy. It is awarded to the student on the first hockey team who best displays effort, ability and clean play during the hockey season. Jay was the assistant cap- tain of the team, which lostin the championship of the St. Catharines City Final. His sister Heather, also a Grade 12 student at Rid- ley College, was awarded her "Colors" for her effort with the girls hockey team. Colors are the equivalent to collegiate letters and recognize athletes with the highest degree of skill and commitment to their par- ticularsport. A third student, Daniel Lee of Uxbridge, was awarded the Keith Mawhinney Trophy for the stu- dent on a hockey team, other than the first team, who best displays effort, ability and clean play. Dan was the goaltender for the Under 16 hockey team. JAY AND HEATHER Tredway, of Greenbank By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Fans of Mosport Inter- national Speedway will be met with more entertain- ment than just autoracing this year when they arrive at the track. This year the speedway will feature weekends full of both racing and enter- tainment. "We want to create more than just a race weekend, but rather events. We are adding musical concerts as a further way to enter- tain the fans," said Har- vey Hudes, general man- ager and president. In the junior division, seven wrestlers from Ep- som, Prince Albert and S.A. Cawker Schools took part in the finals. In the round robin portion of the tournament, these wres- tlers won 18 of 21 match- es, placing all of them in the final. Collin Holditch and Matt Sherriffs both claimed silver medals and Alex McKay a bronze. Mark Sherriffs, Pierce Jones, Donny Sherriffs and Brett Combdon all re- ceived championship T- shirts.' There will be "Esso Awards" for House League and Rep, Most Dedicated, Most Im- proved, and Most Sportsman- like players for most of the teams in our system. Special memorial awards will also be presented. M.C. for the Awards Ceremo- ny will be well-known sports- writer, Wally Donaldson and Mayor Hall will be on hand as well as Recreational Director Marilyn Pearce, to support this event.
