"A Family Tradition for 128 Years" Township, ARF to work on an Alcohol Act By Kelly Lown Port Perry Star Scugog Township has entered into an agreement with the Addiction Re- search Foundation and thé District Health Coun- cil to have a Municipal Al- cohol Act developed for the township. Several municipalities have adopted policies which are meant to pro- tect the township from lia- bility, to ensure the health and safety of the citizens and to regulate the use of alcohol in parks and rcrea- tion facilities. Council was told the need for such a policy is greater these days as there has been a dramatic increase in civil liability cases. The policy may include items such as designated licensed facilities in the township, a safe transpor- tation program, defining the state of intoxication, event control, server trais- ing, low alcohol drinks, ac- countability, insurance and promotion of the poli- cy. A committee will be formed to look at the as- pects of the policy. The ideal committee would consist of a council mem- ber, members of user groups, service clubs and agencies as well as citi- zens at large. Council recommended the policy be adopted with the ARF and District Health Unit and that the planning committee de- cide the best way to devel- op acommittee for the pro- ject.
