They lost the final game 4-0 here in Port Perry friday night and had to settle for silver medals after a great season. Scugog Lumber win consolation Saturday morning saw the AHL season come to a close with Lions Club and Scugog Lumber battling for the consolation cham- pionship. Scugog struck first when Donald Camp- bell set up Travis Black who buried a shot past Mark Lott to give the Lumbermen an early lead. The Lions bulged the twine midway through the second period with a nice solo effort by Mat- thew Douglas. The Lions grabbed the lead for the first time in the game when Luke Pilkey and B.J. Schamp combined to set up Andy Foster who poked the puck behind Scugog netminder Alex Hutchinson. Scugog's Donald Camp- bell knotted the game with 5.9 seconds left in the second period after a great set-up play from Brian Chartrand and Travis Black. Both goaltenders were at their best as the teams battled for the all important go-ahead marker. Tyler Lee's rush up the ice culminated in the tie breaker as Scugog went up by a score of 3-2. The Lions were pressing hard for the equalizer when Travis Black put the game away for Scugog with a spectacular solo ef- fort. The Scugog defensive corps and netminder Hutchinson ensured there would be no Lions come- back on this day. Scugog skated away with the AHL consolation champi- onship after a tremendous game by both squads. Most sportsmanship trophies were awarded to Lions' Mel Godfrey and Lee. A Bruins up one game over Swamp Garage Game one of the final series got un- derway this past Sunday between the Swampers and the Brooklin Bruins with the Bruins prevailing in a 1-0 squeaker. This was one of the more entertain- ing matches of the year and was a good start to the final round of the playoffs. Both squads had their chances around the nets only to miss or be thwarted by the two goaltenders. Brooklin had a chance late in the first period to open up the scoring when Ron Attwood was faced with an open net only to put it past the far post. Mean- missed a good opportunity on a classic three on one but the extra pass stopped this one. In the second, Brooklin hit a goal post on one of their better chances and in their net Jim Raaphonst stopped Mike Butt on a breakaway with a shoulder save on a shot to the top corner. Not to be outdone, the Swamper's Keith Trem- blay made three close range stops on a Brooklin power play. The game stayed 0-0 until with just 5.7 seconds left on the clock and both teams playing four aside when Roger Rousselle's shot hit the far post and in while at the other end the Swampers toputitaway.
