Durham Regional Police said a party of three snowmobiles were on the ice on the east side of Scugog Island Saturday (March 18) around 6:30 when the drivers took a break, and then one man left the gro upio go home. The remaining two machines proceeded on down the lake until one broke through. A rider helped his friend to safety, and the two went to the Island to seek help. It was learned around 9 p.m. that the man had escaped harm and had walked home.
