B8 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, December 6, 1994 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" For early graduates College offers Trent courses High school students who graduate in January have a chance to enrol immediately in first year university courses evenings at Durham College. Trent University will offer a 12 week spring academic pro- gram from Jan. 30 to April 27 at Durham College. Four introductory courses in anthropology, cultural studies, history and sociology will be offered. Each course meets two evenings a week. The session is open to all part time students, but is scheduled particularly for the convenience of high school students gradu- atinginJanuary. Information about courses, admission requirements and reg- istration will be available at an information session Jan. 4 in the Oshawa Public Library auditorium from 3 to 8 p.m. For more information or to obtain a copy of the spring program bro- chure, call Trent's part time studies office in Oshawa at 905- 723-9747 or in Peterborough at 705-748-1229. Twenty-six members enjoyed a Christmas dinner at Haugen's Chicken Barbecue on Thurs- day, Dec. 1. Elsie Pogue opened with the Women's Grace. Many thanks to the waitresses and kitchen for a delicious meal. A job well done and appreciated by all of us. We returned to the Anglican Church Hall for our meeting. Elsie called the meeting to or- der and we all sang the Opening Ode. In the absence of our secre- tary and assistant secretary, Mary Cannon was called upon to read the minutes of the last meeting and the roll call. We had been asked to bring a dona- tion to Operation Scugog and it was well received. Mary then read the correspondence. Lil- lian Harper read thank you cards from the Port Perry High School and receivers of the gifts from W.I. Christmas gifts are to be pre- sented to our shut-in members by Grace Bassant. Dorothy Naples will be going into the hospital Jan. 4 for a knee operation. Have a speedy recovery and see you soon. All the best, Dorothy. Clara Warren has a full bus going to Bowmanville for a shopping spree and a tour of lights in the area. Our meeting was closed with the Hymn of All Nations and the Institute Creed. See you next year, 1995. rm Crime Stoppers and the Durham Regional Police are asking for the public's help in solving four break, enter and thefts which occurred in Oshawa on Friday, Nov. 25. Between 3 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., four local businesses lo- cated at 600 Grandview St. South were victimized by un- known suspects. Movie Ware- house, Dynamite Dollars, Headquarters Hair Salon and Super Discount Comics and Cards had their front doors pried open. The suspects then entered the stores and cash was removed from the premis- es. Anyone with information on r Oshawa break-ins probed the identity of the suspects re- sponsible for these break, en- ter and thefts is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
