Techstars come up short On Nov. 30 Peterborough came to town to face the Techstars. With Gavin Baxter and Troy Campbell out due to injuries caused by a car accident, the Techstars were in for a challenge. The Techstars came out flying and before the end of the first minute they were up to a 1-0 lead when Dillian Weber scored with assists to Dave Gainey and Scott Sanderson. But that lead was short lived as the Peterborough team Peterborough added two more before the period ended. The Techstars got one back early in the second on a goal by JP Copeland from Ian Parliament and Dan Lyons. Peterborough made it 4-2 just two minutes later. The Techstars narrowed the gap to one when Weber got his second of the game assisted by Tyler Wooten and Dave Gainey. The Techstars added one more to tie the game heading into the dressing room after two periods on a goal by Aaron Levy The Techstars finally took a lead when Levy scored another one assisted by Park and Ryan Puckrin. The lead then crumbled as the Peterborough team scored three unanswered goals to walk away with a 7-5 win. Doug Short played a great game in goal stopping, shot after shot from the Peterborough team. The Techstars would like to thank Aaron Levy and Tyler Wooten for filling in for Gavin and Troy and to wish Gavin and The Techstars next home game is Wednesday, Dec. 7 against Oshawa at 7:30 so come out and support the team. IGA girls win From Page 16 We had to win to advance to the finals. Shona found the hole first, unassisted, and at the 00:00 mark, Janine tucked a nice one behind the goalie, as- sisted by Laura. Dana and Moaser set Cara up for the se- cure third goal and Lisa made no hesitation in passing to Sho- na for her second goal of the game and to guarantee another overnighter in St. Catharines. Lisa, who or what was really the attraction in the penalty box?? The parents had a vigorous game of bowling at our hotel at night. Is it really true that Bob V, "Joe Bowler", will be seen on TV soon? Port carried the past game's momentum into the champion- ship game. Whitby fans and players could see the IGA girls were pumped! With two recent defeats to this team and Whitby being our only obstacle to ad- vance to the Provincials later this winter, the girls knew they had to doit. What a performance of the best ringette that one could ever see! Shona started Port's scor- ing with a wicked free pass screen shot that had a jet flight path into the top corner, to end the first period 1-1. Natasha and Janine made some awesome moves to set Shona up again to take the lead. But not for long...2-2 tie. Janine to Shona to Cara this time, who sank one deep past the goalie. This definitely proved to be a netminder's game. Katie made key save after save and Nata- sha made an oustanding check on a breakaway. Whitby man- aged to tie the game 3-3. With practically every girl on each team having a definite two-minute rest in the pen, luck would have two of Whitby's players in the box to start the first overtime period. Shona won the toss to enable Port to take the free pass from centre ice. IGA girls weren't long capitalizing on this scoring opportunity; nine seconds to be exact! With a careful free pass from Janna to Brooke to Shona, she had no hesitation in show- ing her dominance on the ice once again. Wow, she dazzled everyone as no one knew where the ring had landed until she jumped high in glee to score a sacred hat trick! Congratulations, girls, you deserved that win, you are a real team and a great bunch of girls both on and off the ice. Eve- ryone played to their potential and demonstrated their keen skills. Right now, our favorite city is Sudbury. Peewee action Saturday's PHL action fea- tured an exciting match be- tween Big V and Scala Bros. The Scala squad came out flying as they pumped in three quick goals before Big V finally re- sponded with a marker of their own. Jared Aldridge netted Scala's first on a setup from Ryan Woods and Ian Garnett. Brent Simpson's unassisted effort was followed by Ian Garnett's blast from Ryan Woods to make the score 3-0. Troy Hazelton's solo effort got Big V on the board at 2:45 of the first. Derick Daluz restored Scala's three-goal lead after he converted a nice setup from Brent Simpson. Eric Troan stuffed in Jared Aldridge's pass to put Scala up 5-1. Billy Carr finished up a nice play from Troy Hazelton and Clayton Dales blasted a pass from Matt McGarry to put Big V back in the game. Ian Garnett from Ryan Woods and Woods from Garnett and Ryan Haslam attempted to place the final nails in Big V's comeback bid. Big V's netminder Ken Lukas kept his squad in the game ear- ly in the third to prevent a Scala runaway. The team answered with goals from Troy Hazelton (assisted by Peter Landry), Bil- ly Carr (unassisted), and Troy Hazelton (unassisted), to cut the Scala lead to one goal. Scala's goalkeeper Tom McArthur's fine play denied Big V the tying marker and Ryan Haslam iced the game with a solo effort. The final of an exciting game was 8-6. Bantams playing fantastic Blades to players: "You guys are great! Keepit up!" Welcome to another update for the Port Perry Country Style Bantams, sports fans. If you were unable to make it to the arena lately, to watch the Do- nuts in action, boy have you missed some great entertain- ment. Monday, Nov. 28, the Country Style Bantams invited the Cobourg Cobras into the Scugog Recplex to play some fast, exciting hockey. In the pre- vious two matchups between these two teams, the games have been great. This proved to be no different. Port Perry captain Scotty Heffern got things started, let- ting one howl past Cobourg goalie Luke Baterion's ear. Meanwhile, Scott was in midair after taking a hip.check. What a shot! Shane Norton assisted. Norty then scored on an amazing short-handed rush. Shane beat the goalie stickside, only after deking out the entire Cobourg team...twice! Heffy then scored his second of the night, with assists going to Nort and Lairdy. This brought the score to 3-1in our favor. Cobourg managed to score two more in the third, but lucki- ly Adam Hobbs added one more for the game winner, assisted by Casey Van Schagen. Final score Port Perry 4, Cobourg 3. Starting goaltender Kent Johnston played a great game in the cage, facing 53 shots. Len- ny had some pretty saves and was on his game. Blades was more than pleased with our effort after this one, saying "Good game, guys. That's what I like to see. Nice passing out there, and way to keep your cool, even with those goons trying to take your heads off. You guys are great! Keepit up!" Our next game was on Sun- day, Dec. 4, against another team with ugly jerseys - Ux- bridge. We were short three de- " fencemen for this one in Sker- ratt, injured back; Murphy, injured knee; and Laird, flu. We still managed to come out on top, though, winning 7-3. Nor- ton had a wonderful game, scor- ing four goals and adding two helpers. Boy, did he put on a clinicin The Bridge. Norton was an offensive weapon. Hobbsy scored two and picked up two assists. Morden tucked one home, assisted by Smitty, and Froats and Van Schagen also picked up assists. Savage played like a grizzly in net, only allowing three. I wouldn't go near the net with Sav in there, he's liable to smack you. This week's player profile is on Mike Heasman. Heaser is number 15 and if he ever hit you, it'd feel like 15 men hit you. Mike's a scrappy player, who played with the Techstar Ban- tams last year. Mike's usually paired up on defence with Colin Tweens The Pineridge Tween B rin- gette team chalked up two more wins this past week. Last Tues- day, we travelled to- Pickering Village to take on the Ajax team. Our girls were ready to take on the opponents and take them on they did. Lisa LeFort netted the first goal in this game, picking up a twirling pass from Jen Imrie and mak- ing a long shot which slid right in. Ajax picked up a goal mid- way through the first period to tie the game. Ajax broke the 1-1 tie into the second period, but it wasn't long before Jen Imrie on a pass from Melissa Hooker moved right in to find the net. Jackie Smith was the next one to find her spot and picked up two nice goals on assists from Mary Justinsky and Diana Burnett. The Imrie- Laird and says: "I feel safe with Lairdy on the ice, and I think that he feels the same when I'm out there." Mike's a good skater and likes to go fast because his hair blows in the wind. Mike doesn't like to. be messed with when he's on the ice, and I don't think I've ever seen somebody mess with him twice. Mike says: "Come on out Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. to see some great en- tertainment. We're one of the top teams in the league right now, and we want to put on a show for you. It's a lot of fun, and Christmas is on its way. Bring your kids. If we had a packed arena by playoff time, 'm sure that it would push us to play like stars. If you do have some extra time on your hands, come on out, it's great hockey." Remember folks, Monday nights at 7:30 p.m., come on out and watch the Donuts perform. If you can't make it, keep read- ing your local papers each week. Thanks for the support. win two Hooker team and Imrie-LeFort twosome came into force once again, picking up two nice goals and rounding out Jen Imrie's sought after hat trick.
