4- PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 29, 1994 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Scugog mourns death of long-time treasurer Scugog Township municipal employees were mourning yes- terday the passing of Kathleen Mary Harper, the municipality's long-serving treasurer. Mrs. Harper, 64, passed away quietly Sunday night (Nov. 27) at Community Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer. Treasurer at the township since 1981, she was being fondly remembered by her colleagues Monday. Flags at Palmer Park in Port Perry flew at half-mast in her honor in the grey dawn. Born Kathleen McGrath, Mrs. Harper was predeceased by her husband, John Harper. she leaves behind her compan- ion Don Carnegie of Port Perry. She was mother to Ian and his wife Louisa of Toronto, Brian and wii: Denise of Port Elgin, and the late Elaine. Mrs. Harper also leaves behind grandson Jordan and brothers Ian and James McGrath of Scotland. A funeral mass is planned tomorrow at the Church of the Albert. Interment is planned at Pine Grove Cemetery in Prince ' b) A local youth has been cau- tioned by police after a gun scare last Thursday at Port Perry High School. Durham Regional Police said that just before 1 o'clock investigating a driving com- plaint in the vicinity of the school was told a car in the parking lot had a gun in it. Upon investigation the officer found a double-bar- a car. A 14-year-old youth was summoned and explained that the gun was inoperable because the safety was jammed and the gun had been brought into town so it could be dropped off for repairs. The youth told police some- one had entered his car and taken the gun from the case, then put it on the dash. The boy's father was called, said police. He came and removed the gun. Police said that overnight last Tuesday cars on Simcoe St. and Water St. were entered, and stereos and CDs stolen. The reports were lodged Nov. 23, police said. On Nov. 22, police were called to Seagrave to investi- gate the theft of a gas-pow- ered wood splitter from a River St. home. Auto thefts Quick thinking on the part of a local tow truck driver resulted in a stolen vehicle being recovered last week. Durham Regional Police said Brian's Towing was called to Pine Point Rd. on Scugog Island last Sunday (Nov. 20) by a man who said his truck wouldn't start. The caller didn't have Gun in car causes scare at school money to pay for the tow call so the truck was towed to Brian's lotin the Reach indus- trial park. A call was put into police, who determined the truck had been stolen from Quebec. Plates on the vehicle had also been stolen, police said. And Saturday night (Nov. 26) a 1990 Hyundai was stolen in Port Perry. Police said the vehicle was removed from a Queen St. address sometime bety een 6 and 9 p.m. Gas bar hit Thieves have hit the Cango gas bar in the Ridges area again. : Police said that sometime over night Saturday (Nov. 26) someone broke into the kiosk at the gas station on Simcoe St. and stole cigarettes and other items. Full value of the stolen property has not yet been determined, police said.
