The last time these two teams tangled, Oshawa made a third period come- back to defeat Port Perry, however, tonight was a dif- ferent story. The Overhead Doors Pee- wees have worked hard on positioning in practice and in this match, Oshawa was un- - able to penetrate our defence more than one time. Port Perry, on the other hand, scored four times to take a 4- 1 win. Part way through the first period, Matt MacMaster put Port Perry on the board on a snap shot with assists by Scott Brownson and Kame- ron Cooper. Matt made it 2-0 before the end of the first when he tipped in a rebound on a goalmouth scramble. As- sists were by Scott Brownson and Murphy Irvine. Both teams had chances in the second but no goals were scored again until early in the third period when Grant Hooker found the mark through a crowd in front of the net. Grant's goal was as- sisted by Matt MacMaster and Kam Cooper. Towards the end of the third Oshawa did score one to make the score 3-1 but Scott Brownson made it 4-1 on a nice wrist shot to close out the scoring. Matt MacMaster had the helper. This exhibition match was dominated by Port Perry, although the competi- tion challenged our authority throughout the game. It took just 25 seconds for Janine Ham- mond to put in a rebound from Laura Hooker. An overconfi- dent Port Perry team peppered Scarborough's goalie with belly shots, but were stymied until Cara Vander Slagt's backhand found the magic corner, on a pass from Janine Hammond. The 2-0 lead disappeared as Scarborough popped two past Jennifer Hammond and our de- fence. Jen, borrowed from Port's Tween team for this match, played smart and sharp, adding to Port's breakout plays. Thanks, Jennifer. Shona Moase found the scoring touch in the second period with assists to Diane Vanderligt and Cara Vander Slagt. Final 4-2 Port Perry. Realizing that this first game effort would not muster against Pickering, Port's IGA Juniors regrouped. Still, it took a 2-0 deficit to wake up the Port Perry team and score five unan- swered goals for a 5-2 victory- against a chippy Pickering team. Temptation to retaliate against their opponents was held in check and this discipline will help in future games. Lauren Christie, borrowed from Port's Tween team, played a sparkling game - shutting out the Pickering team in the sec- ond period. Lisa Bonser's hard blasts handcuffed the Pickering goalie twice. Heads-up passing plays by Laura Hooker and Na- tasha Burgess set up Lisa's goals. Shona Moase followed Barn burner in Laurentian Bank and the Lion's Club teams treated us to a real barnburner on Saturday, Nov. 19. Lion's opened the scoring three minutes into the game on a goal by B.J. Schaump, assist- ed by Mike Sytsma. Laurentian came right back, Pierce Jones scoring with a hard wrist shot high to the glove side. Lion's took the lead again on a marker by Mike Blakey helped by Luke Pilkey. Less than three minutes later, Ryan May assisted by Derek Ellicott tied it for the Bankers. Once again, the B.J. and Mike tandem gave the Lion's the lead, only to have the Bankers tie it on the next shift with Stormy Wootton convert- ing a pass from Pierce for the Atom action last goal of the period. The second period saw some fine defensive plays. Graham Ingram was strong for the Bankers and Joshua Griffin played a solid game at the blue line, assisting on the only goal of the period for the Lion's. Lau- rentian spread the scoring around some more with Stew- art Cochrane and Chris Gloster each getting one to stake the Bankers to a one-goal lead. The third period came down to an exciting climax with the game's only three penalties all called in the final two minutes. Port's next action is this Wednesday night in Beaverton - Compton Cable Novice action Compton Cable Minor Novice visited Lefroy to play Innisfil on Nov. 17. Port Perry captured their first lead with a goal by Kyle Mullins from Matthew Roth, Compton Cable continued on a roll with goals by Michael Lycett from Tyson Savage, and Cassidy Weber from Derek Go- reski and Taylor Churchill. Kory Bauer did great work clearing the puck in front of the net. Innisfil got a late goal to spoil a shutout for Port Perry. Compton Cable's improved of- fensive passing plays made the difference on this, their third meeting with Innisfil. On Saturday, Nov. 20, Stouff- ville brought their best to town.
