Sympathy extended to residents Villa Program - Nestleton U.C.W. presented a delightful program for the Vil- la residents of Port Perry on Wednesday, Oct. 19 with staff member Paulette Sakrer giving a cordial welcome to the enter- tainers. The villa was celebrat- ing three birthdays on Wednes- day afternoon. Ladies Jean Hicks and Otha Card and a gent Ralph White. Jean Williams was the emcee for the program and gave a reading entitled "A Tribute To Grandmothers." She called on Lawrence Malcolm to lead the singing with wife Gwen at the piano. Later Lawrence sang the comical number dressed in costume "I'm Having The Time Of My Life," which was most enjoyable. Neta Fish had an amusing reading "I'm Fine." We were pleased to have our minister Rev. David Shear: man sing the lovely old hymn "Softly and Tenderly" very beautifully, with Gwen accom- panying on the piano. Yours truly provided abit of humor. Neta was the birthday girl - she presented the lovely cards and gifts to those who were cele- brating and all joined in singing happy birthday. A tempting birthday cake made by member Barb Weir was cut and served along with ice cream to the 25 folks present, topped off with tea or coffee. Resident Armour McMillan expressed apprecia- tion to the Nestleton U.C.W. in a few well chosen words. Sorry Norm and Bernice Mairs were unable to attend as they are entertainers too. And of course we missed Barb Weir our cake maker! Sympathy Extended Very sorry to learn of the passing of a neighbor George France of Scugog Point, who died on Friday, Oct. 28 at Port Perry Community Memorial Hospital. George leaves to mourn wife June, mother Mar- garet France, brother Jim France, children and grandchil- dren. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Nestleton United On a beautiful morning with the Hill family greeting at the door we celebrated 159 years of the former Salem Church and 94 years in the present Sanctu- ary. Blackstock United joined with us - a very large atten- dance present on Sunday, Oct. 30, 1994 for this special day! Rev. Daivd Shearman con- ducted the service with Karen Yellowlees organist! The Sun- day School under the direction of superintendent Kay Notman sang a novel number "Hands Left and Right" with Kate Mairs at the piano. Our guest speaker Rev. Bruce White the chaplain at Memorial Hospital at Bowmanville was welcomed and introduced by Rev. David Shearman. He spoke on "The Price Tag" bring- ing an excellent message to all. (Many problems in churches but they will survive because of our faith). The Ladies Quartet sang "Cover Me" nicely. Offering Glenn Malcolm and Chuck Hill. Service closed with singing "The Lord's Prayer' and "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You" and Benediction - a very fine service! Annual fall What a busy weekend is in store for Blackstock residents next weekend when on Satur- day the Annual Fall Supper will be held at St. John's nglican Church followed by the Black- stock Fiddle Contest held at the Recreation Centre. This event, sponsored by the Blackstock supper this Saturday Agricultural Sosishy will fea- ture entertainment by Graham Townsend. Eleanor Townsend, the other part of the North American Champion Fiddle Team, will act as one of the judges. This event begins at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Anniversary Ser- vice will be held at the United Church with Rev. Doreen Van- Camp the guest speaker. You are invited to bring enough sandwiches for your family so that a social time can be enjoyed following the service which takes place at the regular time of 10 a.m. In the afternoon at 4 p.m., at the St. John's Church at evensong, guest choir will be The Royal St. John's College Choir which makes regular tours around the world. Sounds like a musical treat is in store. On Sunday afternoon, the memorial service in honor of Jim McHarg was held in. Black- stock United Church and was attended by many friends of Port Perry and surrounding area. Rev. David Shearman conducted the service. Word was received last week of the very sudden passing of Raymond Ramshaw, husband of the former Sharon Archer of Oshawa. Ray was only 48 years of age and in seemingly excel- lent health.
