The teams have now faced all opposition and strategies for greater suc- cess in the next set of games are already finding their way into "dressing room discussions". Blazers vs Sharks Game one proved to be an ear- ly morning thriller as the league-leading Harrison Blaz- ers took to the ice against the cellar-dwelling Van World Sharks. A few weeks ago the feeling may have been an easy two points for the Blazers, but not with those Sharks now! In fact, many agree that without standout goalkeeping by Ken Harman, the eventual 2-2 tie could have had the Sharks handing the leaders their first loss of the season! For the Blazers, John Har- man and Larry Jackson had goals with assists going to Dar- cy Milligan, Dale Bronson and Marvin Stevenson. The Sharks countered with goals by Steve Connors and Wayne Fox, assist- ed by Scott Davis, Phil Co- chrane and Greg Fitzgerald to give both teams the single point. Phantoms vs Devils Game two was a "Halloween Special" as the Phantoms faced off against the Devils! This match proved to be a real "treat" as the first period ended in a tie. Sean Fewer "tricked" his way into an unassisted Pineridge marker, while John Mackey had a perfect setup from Bob Beveridge and Bill Foote for the Pizza Delight tally! With neither team able to score during period two, the fi- nal frame became important to both teams since they started ~the day tied in the overall stand- ings. The Devils gave it a great try but two unanswered goals by the Phantoms gave the Pine- ridge gang the victory and the bragging rights! First Bill Van Camp scored from Clarence Stephenson and Brian Samis and then the line clicked again, as Stephenson netted one from Van Camp and Samis, to seal the victory. Comets vs Gamblers Game three saw those Comp- ton Comets continue their win- ning ways of the last few weeks with a 5-2 win over the Cran- dell's Gamblers. The first period action had the same script as the first two games of the day, as the teams traded goals to knot the score at two each. But then it was the Comets who "took off into orbit" with three goals to take the win and catch the Gamblers in the over- all standings points race! Comet scorers had Willy Ed- wards, Mike McQuade, Ron Za- paranuik, Jeff Johnstone, Bill Weisflock, all with single goals, and assists showing Zapara- nuik with three, McQuade and Weisflock with two each and a single to Brian Burns to round out a team effort. Dave Bourgeois and Glen McCoy replied for the Gamblers with single helpers credited to Henry Forderer, Carl Durham, Robert Evans and Bryan Nor- ton. Clippers vs Hawks Game four proved to be yet another tough week for the Fitz- wrald Clippers as the J&D Flawks jumped all over their "short bench" to take a 6-0 victo- ry. It seems to be the story each week that the Clippers will have only a few players and the ones in attendance are truly worn out by the start of the third period. Hopefully, the Clippers can get the bodies out for greater success in Novem- ber. But let's not forget those J&D Hawks in this game. Eight players figured in the scoring parade as Ritchie LeFortled the way with a goal and three as- sists. Dennis Lycett also had a big four-point day as he added four assists to his season total! Carl Durward, Peter Lane, Dave "Pie" Jackson, Keijo Kin- nunen and Doug Suppelsa each "had single goals. Suppelsa had two assists while Durward, Kin- nunen and "Captain" Callery had singles to give the Hawks nine points and sole possession of fifth Qlaceoverall. Pay hargers vs Aces The final game of the day, to complete the October schedule, saw the Monsma Chargers flex their muscles to down the Tay- lor Aces 5-2 and remain just two ints behind those awesome arrison Blazers. After a scoreless great first period, it was the Aces winning period two on goals by Rick Campbell from Wayne Taylor and "Legend" Sheehey and then John Kotarba on a super play from Campbell and Ken Little. However, Chargers scorer Bill Bridge and team sponsor Jack Monsma took over in the final period to lead the Monsma boys to the victory! Bill had a pair of goals and an assist, while Jack had three assists! Duane Bronson, Jason Warner and Jim Duncan all had single tallies. Rick Olaisen, Bob Lee, John Robertson, Brad Hurst and Lee Wilbur completed the Charger attack with single helpers apiece. With next Sunday's action starting off November in fine fashion with Round Two action, the league will keep everyone curious to see if the early lead- ers can maintain their torrid winning streaks. Anything can happen and just like the weath- er, who knows what November might bring! Catch all the action next week at the following times: 6:45 a.m. Pineridge Phantoms vs Taylor Aces; 7:45 a.m. J&D Hawks vs Van World Sharks; 8:45 a.m. Harrison Blazers vs Fitzgerald Clippers; 9:46 a.m. Monsma Chargers vs Pizza De- light Devils; 10:45 a.m. Cran- dell's Gamblers vs Compton Comets. Juveniles are on the move After a couple of losses in ex- hibition play to Markham and Pickering, both Double A clubs, and a win and a loss to Ux- bridge, the Key-Bar Office Equipment Juveniles have put together three wins, one loss and one tiein league play. After a disappointing loss of 8-1to Ennismore in a lacklustre game on Oct. 13, our lone goal coming from Sean McEnaney set up by Mike Olaisen and Scott Wylie, we came to life against Uxbridge with a solid effort and and a 6-3 win. Another 6-2 win against Sun- derland in a chippy affair, and another 6-3 win over Uxbridge last Thursday night. Goal scor- ers in the last win over Ux- bridge were: Sean McEnaney three goals; Captain Jeff Card two goals, two assists; Jeremy Norton one goal, two assists; other assists going to Lou Whit- field with two, Jeff Vernon with two, Jason Brown, Darrell Van- derligt, and Jason Philips with one each. Both goaltenders, Matt Wil- letts and Mike Tripp, have been very steady in all three wins. On Saturday night, Oct. 29, at Oakwood Arena, we were up against a big strong Mariposa club, and very poor officiating. Our club, minus four key players due to prior commit- ments, leaving only 10 skaters, dug way down in the last period to pull out a 4-4 tie after being down 4-2 going into the last pe- riod. Mariposa scored the first goal of the game at 8:16. With less than three minutes left in Robinson drawing the assist. Ron Attwood. wood for the winner. tablished. Swamp pushes Bruins to overtime again For the second time this season B&R Swampers pushed the league leading Brooklin Bruins to overtime only to let them get away. The Swampers got on the scoreboard first with Jarett Harman picking up his first of a natural hat trick with Brian From that point on Brooklin picked it up a notch rattling off three straight before the end of the opening period. Wayne Tate fired in two in a row with Murray Down setting up the first one. Shawn Mitchell rounded out the period's scoring as he put one in along the ice with 65 seconds still on the clock. Harman then brought B&R even with his final two midway through the second, again with Robinson's help on one of them. B&R again pulled ahead when Mike Mole assisted on Jason Price's goal with 3:36 left in regulation time. The Bruins didn't stop as they got the tying goal with 1:30 to go from the broom of Due to time constraints it was a shortened overtime period and with 43 seconds to go in it, Ron Attwood set up Nick Att- The Blackstock Brewers and Trader Sam's also played a close see-saw battle with Blackstock squeakingout a 4-3 win. Trader's notched the game's first goal -with Charlie Dennis counting from Ken St. Amant, and J. Mulheay, With 25 seconds showing on the clock in the first, Blackstock drew even when Scott MacLennan set up Ron Short. In the second half it was Trader's who again pulled out in front with Mike O'Meara netting his first of two on the day. This one was set upby St. Amant and Dennis. Blackstock then kicked it in gear as they rattled off three in a row to pull ahead. Tom Wotten netted the next two, with one be- ing assisted by Gord Bryans, with Ron Wagg hooking up with Short to get theeventual winner. Trader's made it close as O'Meara's second from St. Amant came with 11 seconds showingon the clock. Even the last game of the day was good and close as The Framer's Gallery snuck past Raven's Renovations 2-1, this one again going down to the final seconds before a winner was es- Framer's drew first blood as Brent Rainey potted one from a setup by Steve Kristcnsen right off the opening faceoff. Before the first period had ended though Raven's were right back in it with Dan Van Loom tying it up. It looked like overtime was im- minent in this game also as neither team could muster any more offense to add to the score. With 16 seconds left Rainey assisted on Tyler Renaud's game winner leaving Raven's still winless after seven games. the period, Jeremy Norton tied the score after a beautiful setup from Darrell Vanderligt, the other assist going to Jeff Ver- non. The second period be- longed to Mariposa, after scor- ing three unanswered goals. Jeff Vernon then scored on the power play from Darrell Van- derligt and Jeremy Norton. Going into the third, down now to nine skaters due to a game misconduct for fighting to Mike Olaisen, Port checked with authority and cut down the Mariposa attack and waited for a break to try and get back into it. The break came with only five and a half minutes left in the third period, when Mari- posa took a five-minute major penalty. Working out of our end, Darrell Vanderligt took a nice pass from Jeremy Norton, worked it down into enemy ter- ritory, kept control until Chad Garvock got himself free into the slot and fed a beautiful pass to Chad who one-timed it into the net. Still on the power play, with the clock running down, Jeremy Norton gained posses- gion at centre ice, moved deep into the end zone, fed a pass to Jeff Vernon who noticed Mike Labanovich standing at the side of the net. Mike made no mis- take on the shot making the score 4-4. Darrell Vanderligt took a slashing penalty late in the game, but Mike Tripp, who was very steady all game, came up with some key saves to pre- serve the tie. Joe Broadworth has been rock solid on defence the last few games and has logged a lot of ice time without complaint. What a nice asset he brings to this hockey club. Assistant coach and trainer Jamie Menzies and head coach Dave Barkey are very pleased to have David Menzies back as manager after a two-year ab- sence. And Brett Puckrin, who wag a standout on last year's All-Ontario Juvenile team, signed on as assistant coach working with the defencemen. The coaching staff are pleased with the hustle from the team the last few games and feel that good things are about to happen from here to the end of the season. Home games are Thursday nights at 9:15 p.m. So come on our and help support this team. This Thursday, Nov. 3, Sun- derland is here at 9:15 p.m. Minor Novice action On Oct. 28 at 8 p.m. Compton Cable played an exciting exhibi- tion game against Stouffville. The Compton Cable squad is starting to gel together, becom- ing more competitive. ark Carnaghan stood up and stopped a three on zero breakaway with confidence. Todd Lance and Matthew Roth were solid on defence. Kyle Mul- lins, Derek Goreski, Keenan Geer, and Nelson Langmaid provided ample offence but couldn't find the twine. Stouff- ville was victorious. Saturday, Oct. 29 Compton Cable played a rematch with the Caledon Hawks. The Comp- ton players hung tough led by the hot glove of goalie Leo Tail- on. He had great defensive help from Michael Lycett and Shane Jeffrey. Derek Goreski was a leader with two-way lay, and also assisted on the fone Port Perry goal by Cassidy Weber. Jeff Tomcheski and Tyson Sav- age were persistent in moving the puck toward the opposing team. What a difference a week makes as Compton Cable's team play resulted in a closer match going down 6-1 rather than the double digits the Hawks managed the previous week.
