Salmonmasters held a six-week tournament on Lake Ontario in August and Mr. MacNeil caught the big fish during the one-day final event. For his 27.11 Ib. salmon, Mr. MacNeil was also awarded a Toyota 4x4, bringing his grand prize package to a total of $80,000. John Harman had a pair of assists with singles to Larry Jackson, Dave Milton, Steve Churchill and David Roth. For the Phantoms, it was Fred Moffatt scoring both goals. Assists went to Clarence Ste- phenson and team rep Lee Steeves. Look for another great game between these two teams - when they link up again on Jan. 2,1995. The final game of the day proved to be more of a defensive battle as the Pizza Delight Dev- ils edged the J&D Hawks 2-1. With both teams skating hard and checking well, the chances were few at either end of the rink in this final contest of the day. For the Devils, it was Big Bruce Grace from Steve Dunn, and the winner by John Mackey from Bill Foote and Bruce Smith to capture the covetted two points. The lone Hawk reply came from Rick Hope, assisted by Dennis Lycett and Carl Dur- ward, midway through the third period as the J&D gang put on the pressure but just couldn't get that elusive tying goal. LOL 182 No surprises In broomball play There were no real surprises this past Sunday as each of the three favorites came out on top. The closest game of the after- noon was the first one as the Blackstock Brewers blanked the Framer's Gallery 1-0. The lone marker came early in the opening period when Tom Wot- ten banged in a shot with the as- sists going to Ron Short and Scott MacLennan. Both teams had ample opportunity to put more in but fell short. In the dying moments Black- stock received a penalty, and with the Framer goalie out for the extra attacker they scored what appeared to be the tying goal only to be denied as the re- ferees ruled it went in after the final buzzer. Larry Reurakas notched his second shutout in a row. Game two saw much more scoring as the B&R Swampers downed Trader Sams 6-2 in their game. The Swampers pulled ahead by two when they scored them within a period of 19 seconds with Brian Pomeroy getting the first one from Brian Robinson and Jarrett Harman. with Mike Mole getting the sec- ond. Trader's replied shortly thereafter with one of their own from the stick of Brad Maarse aided by Charlie Dennis. B&R scored two more from Pomeroy and Mole with Jason P:ice drawing an assist prior to the end of the opening period. They built up a four goal lead with Price scoring from Dan Taylor early in the second half while Larry Maarse replied with Trader's last goal. The fi- nal score went to Pomeroy for his hat trick with Price gaining the assist. The final game had the Brooklin Bruins stonewall Ra- ven's Renovating 6-0 giving Jim Raaphorst shutout number two on the young season. Ron Att- wood was the fireball on offense for Brooklin leading them with a hat trick and a single assist. Wayne Tate picked up a goal in each period as he started the ball rolling three minutes into the game. The remaining goal came from the broom of Murray Down.
