"I'm in dire straits," said Fire Chief Don Steele. "I'm charged to look after persons and property, but I can't do it with what I've got." Councillors voted in favor of a resolution calling on township administrator Earl Cuddie to investigate means of financing the new vehicle, which could be built and delivered to the township by January of 1995. But it's not a straightforward purchase. Mr. Cuddie explained to councillors they can't commit a future council to expenditures -- the current council's mandate expires with nomination day for the municipal elections Oct. 14 -- but that they could in all likelihood issue debentures for the purchase. "You cannot commit another council to funds unless you make arrangements for it," said Mr. Cuddie. He added that the which see investors buying portions of the loan to the township and being paid interest -- might not have to be issued by the next council if other means of financ- ing the fire truck purchase can be found. Councillor Dietlein said Monday afternoon he won't be seeking re-election after learn- ing he will have to begin his fight against cancer again. "A week and a half ago I had a check-up with a CATscan," he told his fellow councillors. "And they found I had a regrowth of Hodgkins disease." Councillor Dietlein, 37, made the decision not to run again despite announcing his intention to do so last month. "I was hoping to run again," he said. "...I'm sorry to disap- point all the people who were counting on me." High protein food, such as cereal products, peanut butter, tuna, salmon, beans, apple juice, kraft dinner, stews, soups and meats are always in high demand. Operation Scugog provides donations of food on a regular basis to families and individuals in the Township of Scugog.
