Blazers and Phantoms are still undefeated Great weather and great ac- tion was the order of the day as the "boys of winter" took to the ice for week three in the S.H.L. When the final buzzer sounded, just the Harrison Blazers and the Pineridge Phantoms re- mained as undefeated teams in this young season and as luck would have it, these same two teams meet next Sunday to set- tle the first place issue! Game one saw the J&D Hawks grab their first victory of the season with a 4-2 victory over the Compton Comets who are now winless in the three outings! The Hawks jumped out to an early three goal lead on mark- ers by "Captain" Callery, Carl Durward and Rick Hope. The Comets came back with an un- assisted effort by Willy Ed- wards midway through the sec- ond period but this game belonged to J&D as both teams traded goalsin the final frame. Peter Lane had the final tally for the Hawks while assists on the day went to Durward, Lane, Chris Brain, Denms Lycett and [2d Olsen. The final scoring play of the Turnto Page 16 Close scores In broomball action The second week of the local broomball league saw much closer scores than did the sea- son openers from a week ago. Game one saw The Black- stock Brewers down Trader Sam's, formerly Woody's by a 3- 0 tally. The first period saw the Brewers get their first market with just 37 seconds on the clock when Ron Short put in a setup from Ron Wagg. In the second half Tom Wot- ten made it a two goal lead as he picked up one unassisted. The final marker came from the broom of Short again, this time into the empty net. Recording his first shutout of the season was Larry Reurakas. Again the next encounter showed the final score close as The Framer's Gallery defeated the newly named Raven's Reno- vations 3-1. The first ended in a 1-1 draw with the Framer's drawing first blood on a goal by Peter Kristensen from Scott McLeod, followed by Raven's lone marker from the stick of Leo Pettipas assisted by Dave Price. The final two goals were netted by Tyler Renaud on a solo effort, and Brian Kerry from Paul Brough. The B&R Swampers pulled ahead of the Brooklin Bruins by a 2-0 lead at the halfway point of the final game of the day only to see that.lead evaporate and turn into a 6-3 overtime loss. Brian Pomeroy and Dave Can- ning set up Brian Robinson late in the period with that one fol- lowed by Mike Butt aided by Ja- son Price to give the Swampers the edge. It held up until theret: was just seven minutes to go in the game when Brooklin scored two quick ones to get back in it. Both goals came from the broom of Wayne Tate assisted by Nick and Ron Attwood and Ken Lynde. In the total goals overtime Brooklin showed their advan- tage in bench numbers and speed as they fired in three in succession. The first went to Shawn Mitchell from Lynde, with Roger Rouselle netting the next one from Nick Attwood and Tate pocketing his third, set up by Chris Lepine and Murray Down. The final B&R goal went to Robinson for his second with Mike Healy drawing the assist. Week one scores saw Brook- lin defeat the Framer'sin an 8-0 whipping while the Trader Sams squad annihilated Ra- ven's Renovations 12-0. The fi- nal game of the day was a more respectable score with The Swampers blanking The Brew- ers 1-0.
