Keep up the good work. 4th Port Perry Brownies The 4th Port Perry Brownies (ages six, seven and eight) are reminded that their registra- tion will also be held on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Church in Port Perry. 2nd Scugog Beavers, Cubs and Scouts The 2nd Scugog Beavers (ages five, six and seven), Cubs (ages eight, nine and 10) and Scouts (ages 11, 12, 13 and 14) will be holding their registra- tion on Wednesday, Sept. 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Scugog Is- land Community Centre. Figure skating registration Our entire community was saddened with the news of the passing of Ross Duff after along illness. Sympathy is extended to his wife Alma, his son Gra- ham and daughter Marilyn and her husband Corry Call, all of Blackstock, to his sisters Myr- tle, Helen and Ruth and broth- ers Tom and Robert, their spouses and families as well as his many, many friends. The fu- neral service was held in Black- stock United Church, which was filled to capacity on Mon- day afternoon. It was conducted by his minister Rev. David Shearman and included duets by Linda Kyte and Glenn Larm- er. Ross will be indeed greatly missed. Glad that Jean and Bill Fer- guson have returned home from the western provinces. Their trip to visit many friends and relatives was extended when Jean had to undergo emergency surgery in Calgary. A complete recovery is wished for you, Jean. Many from this community attended the golden anniver- sary of Fred and Ruby (McLaughlin) Griffen on Satur- day afternoon and evening at Tyrone Community Centre. On Wednesday, Sept. 7, you can watch the Golden Slippers on Breakfast Television on CITY-TV (Channel 57) from 7 to 9 a.m. Watch out for these fa- miliar faces! They will be at the Oshawa Festival performing at the cor- ner of Simcoe and Bond on Fri- day, Sept. 9 at 6 and 7:30 p.m., and on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10 and 11:30 a.m. On Sunday, Sept. 11, they will be performing at Cullen Gardens at2and 3 p.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 13, they will be in Toronto at the Great Maturity Show at the Toronto Convention Centre, LeHotel. Last weekend, the Bryans and Alpe families gathered at the home of Nancy and Bob Bryans for supper together. They celebrated Debbie, Gord and Nancy's birthdays. Happy birthday to you all. Later the sisters celebrated their dad's birthday with sup- per at Northumberland Heights. Congratulations to Dean Swayze and his father Glen of Glen-Dor Farm who won four first prizes, one second and three thirds in the Percheron Classes at the CNE last week. There were 12 tables at the Tuesday evening weekly card party with the following win- ners: Ruby Smith (92), Grant Clara Warren, George Harper, Mary Poots, and Faith Lawrence. Lucky draws were won by Kay Beggs, Nerta Masters, Meta Swain, Muriel Butson, Clara Warren, Harold Swain.
