In addition to supplying the community with the products it needs, they've served as meeting places for people to get to know one another, and continue old acquaintances. And you know what? Over the years, not much about that has changed. Ashburn General Store With the continual expansions in rural Ontario and the ongoing building of shopping malls, the days of the small general store are somewhat limited. At one time the entire town depended on the general store for groceries, clothing and farm supplies. : It is important for the local townspeople to remember that the only way their general store can survive in these days is if they support it in any way they can. We took over operation of the Ashburn General store in December of 1988, after moving here from Stouffville. My previous experience was in the floral Busi so today you can often find fresh flowers and plants at different times of e year. owners in the 150 - years since it was re built. Owned and operated since August of 1986 by the Masterson family -- Don, Ginny, Sharri and Tim --- the store has been operated by a number of other merchants, notably William Parr, Mr. Saywell, Harold Martin, and Bill Thompson. William Parr built the store in the early 1890's and as business grew, added the residence portion of the building in the early 1900s. We are located at 14020 - Scugog St. N. ~The country atmosphere of The County Convenience Store is what makes our business so special. Friendly staff are here to greet you, and you can meet your neighbours for a chat. - We feature a full-service post office, Kawartha Dairy milk, ice cream and dairy products, a full line of 1. decorative painting supplies, and a selection of videos for rent. Since earlier this year the Columbus Country Emporium has been owned and operated by Terry and Lesley West, and we have plans to carry on the tradition of service and continue to make the local store an important part of the community. We plan to have a number of special products brought in for the fall and winter seasons, but right now what our customers especially enjoy are our ice cream cones.
