"For the next while I will be trying to familiarize myself with the team and the ways of the NHL, and then roll up our sleeves and put a plan into at- tack," Burnett said. The first step in that direction was made yesterday as his coaching staff of Ron Low and Kevin Primeau, was an- nounced. With training camp only a few weeks away, Burnett's number one priority is to be pre- pared for an organized training camp and begin to put his sys- tem in place, while striving to gain the respect of his players. The ice will already by broken when some introductions are made, when the players make their way to Northlands Coli- seum for camp. At least 10 of the current Oilers played for Bur- nett in Cape Breton. He feels this is a positive start. "I won't have to break the ice with all of them at once. Wheth- er positive or not we will know each other, and they will know what I am about," he added. Burnett does admit there are pangs of anxiety, wanting the season to get underway, but says there is a lot of work to be done first. "There are many players who are still unsigned and "there is lots toiron out." "But, we will put a plan into attack with what we have and if more come on stream that is great, but for now we set the tone with who we have," he add- ed. [ee i Forder-Parks Insurance Brokers Inc. Although the National Hock- ey League is a whole new set- ting, Burnett has had great suc- cess wherever he has been behind the bench. In his first year as head coach of the Oilers' farm team in Cape Breton, he led the Little Oilers to the team's first-ever Calder Cup victory. From the early beginnings as the head coach of the Port Perry MoJacks Junior C team, Bur- nett moved fast through the coaching ranks. In less than 10 years he has lept from coaching a Junior C hockey club, followed by stints with Seneca College, Oshawa Generals and the Niag- ara Falls Thunder, to joining the select handful who make it URANJ 0 "Building today, your dreams for tomorrow" ONTRACTING "7 e Custom Built Homes Parma e Additions SEALE 0) e Renovations Port Perry - (905) 985-7287 - Johri Van Belle tocoach the game's elite.
