After more than six years of disputes, a controversial build- ing in Port Perry was demol- ished on July 28. It took little more than one hour for the building, located at the foot of Shanley Street, to be levelled by a backhoe last Thursday morning, under the direction of landowner Bill Tripp. e building has been the centre of debate in the township and in the courts after the law firm of Harris Fletcher Tesluk Associates attempted to estab- lish its practice in the building on the site. The conflict began in Decem- ber, 1987, after the partners ty and moved the building to its presentlocationin 1989. The Township of Scugog fought the move, arguing the structure sat on an unopened road. In May the owners of the building were ordered by the Supreme Court of Canada to re- move the structure or face con- tempt of court charges. The owner of the property was also told he could be charged with the responsibility of moving the building, if satis- factory action was not taken. A deadline of May 13 had been set for its removal.
