"They're not continuing on with the stuccoing." Crews were sandblasting the building, at the corner of Queen and Perry Streets, to get a closer look at the condition of the brick, he said. Renovations to the building's exterior were brought to a sud- den halt July 14 when township council enforced its Urban De- sign Guidelines, aimed at pre- serving the historic nature of the downtown core, by issuing a stop work order. Councillors ob- jected strenuously to plans to cover brick with grey stucco and erect a neon sign. Mr. Cuddie said plans for the building's restoration will be submitted to township officials after sandblasting is completed, and may be approved before council meets again in Septem- ber. The building is owned by a To- ronto company and leased to the Royal Bank, council heard dur- ing a discussion on the matte earlier this month. A Roya Bank official, Mike Byford, as- sured the council work would not have proceeded without the proper permits if the building was owned by the bank. Council was also informed by the contractor on the site that the brick is in poor shape, and may not be salvageable. Community shower held and Jeff Scott, from West Midlands, England, for two weeks. Hope everyone is having a wonderful time! That's all for now. Please phone Ann Sandiford at 985- 9440 for next week's column.
