Trevor MacSween flew to P.E.L. on Saturday to spend five weeks visiting with his grand- mother. Grace and Gordon Kirk enter- tained her cousin Yvonne All- worth from Medicine Hat, Al- berta, for a few days last week. Eileen Slute enjoyed a five day bus trip to Virginia, travel- ling to the Shenandoah Valley, Richmond and Williamsburg. The heat and humidity was the only bad part ofthe trip. Congratulations to Kelly and Brian on the arrival of another daughter. Taylor Marie Bolt- Grace arrived on Thursday at Community Memorial Hospital weighingin at 6 1bs. 8 oz. Several baseball enthusiasts were in Greenbank on Sunday afternoon to watch their local "cutie" play. There was no award for the best red rose or white rose. Norma Ingleton won the Best Decorative with her en- try of "triplets" - a stemmed gob- let design using three roses and own foliage. Florence Downey won first prize on many of her entries. The guest speaker Sher Lee- tooze gave an interesting and humorous talk on "Edible Wilds". Many of our so called weeds can be used for medicinal purposes. Burdock leaves can be used to treat poison ivy. The flowers and leaves of the gold- enrod make tea. A refreshing beverage can be made from the sumac, mixed with ginger ale. The next flower show will be YMCA camp in The Y.M.C.A. will be running | a summer camp program at Ep- som Church for the month of July. We will be having an Art, Sport and Kindercamp, depend- ing on the number of children who register (half and full days). A good meal, but it was sure chilly. On Saturday afternoon, Doug and Florence Ashton attended an open house for Mr. and Mrs. Sam Post of Whitby in honor of their 60th wedding anniver- sary. Mr. and Mrs. Post are Bet- ty Emm's parents. Don't forget the Canada Day Picnic to be held at Ashburn Park on Friday. Epsom The Bethesda Women's Insti- tute outing was attended by 17 and was a lovely day with a trip on the Severn River, a visit to the Leacock Museum in Orillia, a visit to a bird breeding farm, one of four in Canada. They were interested in tropical vul- tures, raptors (hawks, falcons, etc.). They were told how they are trained to hunt and return. All enjoyed this demonstration. The ladies had a boat trip on the Severn River then returned to Orillia for supper and the Op- era. I think they all had a full day when, after leaving Ux- bridge at 9 a.m. they returned at midnight. Well, I was one W.I. member who didn't go on the trip but I think I was just as tired as I at- tended my grandson, Clarke Moore and Heather Arp's wed- ding in Oshawa. I was told the party was well "charged" as there were three electricians in the bridal party. So this is "goodbye". It has - been nice knowing you and thanks to all who have helped along the way. a Gk Wi Jim and Elleen Warren celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends at the Uxbridge Seniors Centre on June 11. The couple were married in Scarborough on June 3, 1944 and were residents of Uxbridge for more than 40 years where they owned and operated a hardware business. They have lived in Scugog since renovating their cottage on Scugog Island two years ago.
