It is estimated the hall will cost $720,000, with an addition- al $200,000 expense for park- ing. Other expenditures under the infrastructure plan include roads projects in Caesarea ($120,000), various infrastruc- ture expenditures at Scugog Memorial Library including computer equipment ($75,000), and improvements to the boat launch in Port Perry ($85,000). The township was under pressure to approve these pro- jects before the September 30 application deadline. Despite coming to an agree- ment on Monday, council mem- bers have been at odds for weeks over the infrastructure plans. At the heart of the issue is the funding for the banquet hall. Council has maintained the pro- ject would only be approved if community user groups shared in the cost of the project. To date, the groups have been slow in responding with only Banquet facility gets the green light $118,000 of the needed $324,600 committed. But council argued in favor of borrowing from reserves to fund the project, maintaining the fe will come forward once it ns At we don't do it now. I don't know when we'll do it," said Area Councillor Harvey Gra- ham. "It will be something that will be sorely missed." Regional Councillor Yvonne Christie echoed the words of Councillor Graham. "I say we go ahead. I happen to think it's one of those things that if we don't do it now, it will never be done," she said. Despite council's approval, Ward 4 Councillor David Dietle- in opposed the project, arguing the project should be scaled back in favor of more roads pro- jects. "I haven't been hearing that much response for a banquet hall," he said. "In these econom- ic times, there doesn't seem to be much call."
