Byron was the son of William W. Holtby and Edythe Bruce and step-son of Aletha Barrett Holtby. He was born on Janu- ary 26, 1922 and attended Pros- pect Public and Port Perry High Schools. He was a member of the Port Perry United Church. After spending four years in the Canadian Army, Byron took an early discharge and re- turned to the farm because of his father's poor health. In 1948 Byron married the former Willa Marie Edgerton and operated a dairy farm for 28 years until health problems forced him to retire. In 1975 they moved into Port Perry where Byron lived until his death. While farming, he served on several organizations where he held positions on the school board, planning board, church, and Holstein-Friesian Associa- tion. Byron is survived by his wife, Willa, two sons, Doug and his wife Rita of Kincardine and Glen and his wife Janice of Grimsby and daughter Marie and her husband Murray St. Thomas of Whitby. Dearly loved Grandpa of Bradley, Mark, Tim, and Amanda Holtby, and Matthew and Adam St. Thom- as. Predeceased by brother Bruce and sister Jean Dreger. Funeral service was conduct- ed by Rev. Robert Le Page at the Wagg Funeral Home, McDer- mott-Panabaker Chapel on Sat- urday, May 14 at 11 a.m. with committal at Pine Grove Ceme- tery. Doug Holtby gave the eulo- gy in memory of his Dad. The pallbearers were Fred Christie, Jim Smitherman, Gor- don Prentice, Bill Tripp, Lloyd Smith and Kenneth Rodd. Hon- orary pallbearers were Bob Walker and Ted Lamb.
