2 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, June 14,1994 "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" Blackstock residents oppose sale of land A group of Blackstock resi- dents are opposing a scheme to sell municipally-owned green. space in the area. ' Approximately 20 residents from the Blackstock area at- tended a public hearing on Mon - day to oppose a scheme to sell a parcel of land at Greensboro Drive and Old Scugog Road for development. The township currently owns the land but has designated itsurplus. The land would be divided into three lots facing Greensbo- ro Drive providing for single family dwellings. The revenue generated from G.1.C. A jobsOntario grant would cover half of the $350,000 price tag, with the township contrib- uting the $150,000 from the land sale and $25,000 from the community. But community members op- pose the project, noting the ex- isting storm water drainage cannot handle the additional construction. Mark Johnson, a resident on Old Scugog Road, presented pic- tures showing the damage created each spring from the water flow and called for better drainage in the area. Others ex- win. ot milar concerns. The most passionate plea came from a small boy who ex- pressed concern he would be los- ing a play area if the homes were built. Despite the opposition, not all objected to the plan. Some sup- ported the plan to sacrifice the land in order to improve the fairgrounds. Ward 2 Councillor Marilyn Pearce pointed to the need for the project to go ahead and not- ed the support of the community in previous meetings.
