kl "A Family Tradition for 128 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, May 17,1994 - 13 Port Perry High School students took part in a 30-hour famine last week as not only part of thelr World Issues class, but to also raise money for World Vision. (See story). starving Some Port Perry High School students went to bed without dinner last week, butit was for a good cause. A group of 65 PPHS students participated in a 30-hour fa- mine last week at the school to raise money for World Vision. And what began as a class as- signment for two OAC students, raised more than $2,200 in pledges for the cause. Heather McLean and Mi- chelle Lavereau, who were stud- ying the world food problem in their Geography of World Is- sues class, proposed the idea to the class. It was originally planned for 15 to 20 students to take part in the 30-hour project, but grew to 65 as word got out. Living on nothing but liquids for the full 30 hours, the stu- dents really got first-hand knowledge of how an under- nourished person must feel. "The students are bringing reality home today," said teach- er Don Farquharson. GRADUATE Congratulations to Paul Wylie on graduating with his B.A. at U. of T. in Sociology, as of May 13, 1994, completing his Business Administration at Durham College.
