Regulations re ing so-called releases are the tight- est in the world and regulatory agencies both federally, provin- cially and internally make same so. b) Accidental releases of Triti- um, if they occur, are well with- in Atomic Energy Control World Regulatory and Ministry of Environment regulations. In- ternal Ontario Hydro controls even far exceed all others in the world. The design of the Candu system, which our nuclear sta- tions are, addresses these con- trol concerns very specifically. ¢) Chances of serious accident are extremely low because the Candu system has three shut- down procedures. Not one but three! As I write this, probably one unit of the 20 is being shut down or brought up. The Ministry of Environment will not allow Ontario Hydro to work with water production of power as in the past for a bushel basket full of environmental reasons. Gas, oil or coal pow- ered generation is what we should consider a thing of the past unless we can find an inex- pensive way of scrubbing emis- sions. Acid rain being the major concern. Please consider that the em- ployees of Ontario Hydro are probably your next-door neigh- bors. They don't want what you profess to be happening because they are just as concerned as you. They have families and won't allow Hydro to skimp from a health and safety point of view. Their program is the best in the world.
