Uxbridge 852-3355 Scugog Shores Museum re- grets to announce that the Cu- rator/Director, Kim Harper has resigned due to ill-health. Kim has been an active sup- porter of the museum and has been employed by the museum for more than two years, and a year and a half as the Curator/ Director. Her position is being # temporarily filled by Gail Sheri- § dan, who was previously the cu- rator for two years. Ms. Sheri- dan will administer the museum until a replacement has been found. The museum board has decid- ed to restructure its operation ss for the balance of the calendar year. The board is conducting a province wide search for two qualified people: One as a tem- porary curator and the other person as a temporary part- time administrative assistant. Advertisements for the posi- tions appear in the classified section of today's Port Perry Star. In order to reduce costs, the board has decided to close the museum during the months of December, January and Febru- ary. This is the 26th anniversary of the museum's operation and preparations are well under- way for what will probably be the busiest season ever for the museum. The annual yard sale takes place on Monday, May 23 and will kick off the museum's flag sale. The museum's major fund- raising event "Canoe the Non- quon" will be held on June 4. . The Port Perry Cruisin' Car Classics will be holding three meets at the museum grounds; May 15, June 12 and July 17 as well as their major car show on Aug. 21. The 17th annual Pioneer Days takes place on June 18 and 19. Our cookie sales were great, selling 6,240 boxes of cookies and to top that, two of our local girls, Debra Hailey a 2nd Port Perry Pathfinder and Lisa Pentland of the Seagrave Brownies came second and first respectfully in the Cookie But- ton design contest. Next year Lisa's design will be featured on the Cookie Button received by all the girls in Ontario. Con- gratulations girls. Our 1st P.P. Sparks have been very busy learning about their counterparts in other countries - Rainbows in Eng- land, Daisy Friends in the U.S.A. and Pippin Friends in New Zealand. It's great fun to send and receive penpal letters. The 1st P.P. Brownies are do- ing many activities in prepara- tion for their weekend camp at Camp Samac in May. I hope the mosquitoes aren't biting yet. The 2nd P.P. Brownies made good use of the holiday Easter Monday by going to the Science Centre in Toronto. Information regarding these events will be forthcoming in future articles. Guiding held last weekend at Camp Ade- laide in Haliburton. They had a fabulous time. The 3rd P.P. Brownies worked on a community service project this past month, serving tea and sandwiches and entertain- ing with some songs at the Sen- ior's Tea at the Anglican Church. Thanks girls. The 4th P.P. Brownies also went to Camp Adelaide at the end of March, enjoying still win- ter conditions with toboggan and sleigh rides as well as a cozy indoor break with a very magi- cal wizard. The 5th P.P. Brownies are also preparing for a camp week- end this month and have spent their meetings learning about astronomy, fire safety and first aid, all necessary for a fun time at camp. By the way, congratu- lations to all the 5th Brownies for having the tops in cookie sales this year. Way to go girls!! Many of the girls in all the Brownie groups are looking for- ward to their Fly-Up and Walk- Up to Guides later this month. The 2nd P.P. Fathfinders too will be camping in June and have also been busy making their own first aid kits and pre- paring the camp program in- cluding the menu for the week- end, equipment needed, challenges to be accomplished, games and crafts to be done. A busy but very worthwhile pro- ject. Have a super time girls. Upcoming events: May 3 - a mother/daughter social night at Heber Downs for the area Path- finders. May 7 and 8 - look for the Pathfinders and Guides to be serving goodies inside the main doors at the Art Fest which is being held at the high school. May 9 - come plant a tree with the 2nd P.P. Brownies by the library, for Arbor Day. ***Friday, June 3 - Parent/ daughter barbecue at the Em- manuel Pentacostal Church 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. - eats and treats, games and fun - bring your own mug and lawn chair.
