4a - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, April 19,1994 Murray rentice It is with deep sorrow that the family of Murray Jack Prentice ily. announce his passing on Feb. 15, 1994 at Uxbridge Cottage Hospital, after a recurring and courageous battle with cancer. He was in his 51st year. Murray was the beloved husband of Joyce (Fisher) and devoted fa- ther of Richard, dear son of Gor- don and Elsie Prentice, brother of Don and Ross, and dear son- in-law of Harry and Ethel Fish- er. He will be lovingly remem- bered and missed by all his fam- Murray was born in Uxbridge on May 25, 1943, and married Joyce Fisher on July 2, 1966. Following his graduation from high school and Toronto Teach- er's College, Murray began his career in education. He first taught in Uxbridge in 1963. He had a thirst for knowledge and a zest for life. He received his Honors B.A. degree from Wil- fred Laurier University, spe- cializing in Geography. This led to a keen interest in travel which continued throughout his life. He was also very concerned about environmental Murray received his Master of Education degree from the Uni- versity of Toronto in 1977, and in June, 1993, he graduated with his Ph.D. from the same university. At the age of 24, he issues. became the first principal of Scott Central Public School in Sandford. From 1967 to 1992, he served as principal at Sand- ford, Uxbridge Public School, R. H. Cornish Public School in Port Perry, Sunderland Public School and Vaughan Willard Public School in Pickering. Dur- ing 1978, Murray and his family participated in a teacher ex- change program in Australia. In September 1992, he be- came the first Research and As- sessment Officer for the Dur- ham Board of Education, a position he held until his death. Throughout his career, he was involved in numerous commit- tees which he assumed willing- ly and with dedication. His generosity, gentle spirit and cheerful disposition will be sadly missed by his family, friends and colleagues.
