Born April 26, 1930 in Greenbank, Ontario, he was the third son of Campbell ahd Eva Stone. He is sur- vived by two brothers, William and Ross and was pre- deceased by a sister, Jean. He attended public school in Saintfield and graduat- ed from Port Perry High School in 1948. As an active community member of Greenbank, he became a member of Session of the United Church and was also a Sunday School superintendent. Following his move to Port Perry he became a member of the Port Perry United Church. He married Ruth Doherty and raised three children, Daniel, Paul and Jane-Anne. In 1952 he took over the family farm, operating it for eight years. Over the next four years he built and operated Cedar Stone Park while also working as a guard at Whitby jail. In June of 1964 George obtained his real estate licence and started working for H. Keith Ltd. Real Estate. During the time he was there he was awarded the Top Salesman Award for three consecutive years. After obtaining his F.R.I. and C.M.R designations from the Canadian Institute of Realtors, he opened his own successful real estate company, George Stone Real Estate, in 1972 and served the community as a Real Estate Broker, Appraiser and Land Developer for 20 years. He was one of the area's real estate pioneers and was instrumental in selling many people their first home or farm. George Stone was committed to the community which had treated him so well and gave back gen- erously supporting the hospital, ama- teur sports and a variety of commun- ity projects. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Port Perry for more than 14 years, and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award in 1992. He also worked with the Easter Seals nie tn -- GEORGE STONE for crippled children and was dedicated to fundraising for Rotary Club projects. George's interest in sports led him to sponsor a Peewee hockey team and he watched proudly as his team won an All-Ontario Championship three times. He was an avid curler and sponsored 14 company bonspiels. He also loved sailing, curling, golf and was an avid baseball fan, actively cheering on to victory the Blue Jays at many of their games. George is sadly missed by his beloved companion Beverly Travis, his sons Dan and his wife Judy of Port Perry, Paul and his wife Lorna of Markham, Jane- Anne and her husband Dr. Tony Cohn of Peterborough. He leaves loving memories with nine grandchildren: Christy, Suzanne, Jessica, Jim, Erin, Rebecca, Jonah, Emma-Jane and Daniel. George will also be fondly remembered and missed be Dean Travis, David and Karen Travis and their daughter Brooke and many friends both here and in Florida. Although faced with an uphill battle, George pos- sessed an inner strength and positive attitude that allowed him to fight his illness day by day. Not for a moment did he think of giving up. His strength of spirit, sense of humour and attrib- utes will be admired and remembered continually by family, friends and the community.
