Hank & Honkers at hall Washboard Hank and the Honkers will be the special per- formers at this month's Green- bank Folk Music Society con- cert. Washboard Hank is a singer, percussionist, guitarist, song- writer and comedic backwoods - philosopher. Hank Fisher who is also an accomplished guitar and kitch- en sink tuba player, along with Honkers Fiddlin' John Hoffman on the fiddle and mandolin; Matthew "Mighty" Fines on electric guitar, dobro and banjo; Sleepy Jim Gleason on bass; Pineapple Frank Barth on ped- al steel and Mike "Biff" Clinton on drums and cowbells make up the band. Washboard Hank cut his teeth as a street musician in cit- ies like Nashville and San Fran- sico, entertaining audiences not only with his music but his flam- bouyant antics and great sense of humor. Hank was influenced by three great Hanks in Williams, Snow and Thompson and he specializ- es in resurrecting songs by such musicians as Rose Maddox and Yodelin' Kenny Roberts. Hank and the Honkers use combinations of vintage country and witty and willy originals to dish up their tunes. Washboard Hank, an animat- ed artist, and Fiddlin' John, an arranger, singer and instru- mentalist, also team up to present childrens' acts. Washboard Hank was also Stompin' Tom Connors invited guest where he sang "Stompin' Tom for Prime Minister" at a re- cent concert. Reverend Rodgers returns Shirley (=1z) The Greenbank United Church congregation welcomed back to the pulpit Rev. Art Rod- gers and Ruth for our Sunday services. Rev. Rodgers had a very meaningful pre-Easter message which included high- lights of his recent trip to the Holy Land. Birthday congratulations to Mrs. Aileen Dobson and Mrs. Dorothy Tanson who celebrated their 88th birthdays on the weekend. Aileen's family helped her enjoy her birthday by having a drop-in on Satur- day. On Sunday, Dorothy had a family drop-in, then on Monday Evelyn Heron of Norwood and granddaughter Kim Luntz and children of Warkworth spent the day visiting. This week the "Greenbank Folk Music Society" presents "Washboard Hank and the Honkers" on March 19 at Greenbank Hall. The Lions Club dance on April 30 has a team sports theme, so get that sport shirt out of the closet and phone your team members to make up a ta- ble. The cost is $20 per couple and this includes a buffet. Phone 985-3723 for tickets. The Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt is set for Saturday April 2, from noon to 2 p.m. at Green- bank Hall. The kids receive lunch, movies, treats and an egg hunt for a reasonable price. This project is designed by the Lions to provide a fun day for the youngsters in the communi- ty (10 and under). Fairley in the Presbyterian Church. The hymns were played by Joyce Taylor and Oliver Rohrer was the usher. Sunday School pu- pils were taught by Peggy Jones and Mrs. Armstrong. The responsive Psalm was 107 and Scripture readings were from Numbers 21 and St. John 3. In the sermon, Rev. Fairley spoke of "giving thanks unto the Lord".
