Peewees lead series 2-0 EXHIBITION GAME: On Feb. 5 the Legionaires travelled to Oshawa for a game against the LNHL Bruins. The Bruins scored quickly and held a 2-0 lead until the 12 minute mark of the first when Derek Tindall tipped a Seth Gray slap shot from the blue line to put Port on the board. In the last 30 seconds of the period Adam Jones scored 2 goals, the first from Derek and the second from Scott Jeffrey and Adam Hobbs. Port ended the period leading 3- 2. Early in the second period Adam J. got his hat trick, bury- ing a Seth slapshot rebound. Throughout the rest of the pe- riod the Legionaires dominated the play, and scoring three more times, ended with a 7-2 lead. Scoring were Troy Camp- bell, Seth and Derek, assisted by Danny Lyons, Casey van Schagen, Seth and Jon Froats. The third period became rough- er as the clock ticked away but neither team was able to score again. Both goalies and all our defense played extremely well and looked to be in fine shape to start the playoffs against Col- lingwood. OMHA PLAYOFFS SEMIFINALS The first game of a best of sev- en series against Collingwood was played in Port Perry on Feb. 12. Shane Savage playing a strong game in net was put to the test many times in the first five minutes as Port got off to a slow start. As the game pro- gressed, however, our game im- proved and we ended the first period with a 3-1 lead, our first goal came from Adam J. assist- ed by Adam Hobbs, our second by Seth from Glenn McCready and Casey, and our third by Adam J. unassisted. Less than three minutes into the second, Adam J. got another goal, unas- sisted, his third of the game. Our fifth goal was scored by Ca- sey from Seth, and our last of the period was by Glenn from Jon. Casey scored again in the third assisted by Troy. Colling- wood finally scored their second at 9:26 followed quickly by a goal by Jon assisted by Seth. Danny finished the scoring for Port at 13:13 with some help from Troy and Collingwood found the mark in the dying seconds to end the game 9-3 for the Legionaires. A 1-0 lead in the series. The second game was played on Sunday in Collingwood after a long, snowy ride. Dann Lee was between the pipes for this one. At the 3:49 mark Colling- wood had 2-0 lead, were out- skating Port, and the Port fans were wondering what hap- pened but this lead was soon to disappear as the Legionaires reacted to the wakeup call. At 6:32 Adam J., on the pow- er play, walked out from the corner and scored with some help from Troy and Scott. At 7:13 tied the score from a scramble in front assisted by Derek and Jon. Thirty-five sec- onds later Scott got his first goal of the game assisted by the two Adams. It took Troy just seven seconds on the next pow- er play to sink a shot from the point with help from Scott and Seth. After good passes from Casey and Adam J., Adam H. gecored at 9:45 and at 12:56 Forwards Scott Brownson and Dane Gray were busily bumping people off the puck and trying to be the first person Adam J. ended the first period scoring assisted by Scott and Adam H. Collingwood scored just 12 seconds into the second but some good forechecking by Scott paid off with his second goal assisted by Adam and Adam again. At 2:57, Adam J. buried a rebounding point shot from Seth, assisted by Troy. This was Adam J's third hat trick in as many games, but not his last goal in this game. Col- lingwood scored again and our guns were silent until the nine minute mark when we scored three more goals in 83 seconds to take an 11-4 lead. Danny scored the first on a good setup from behind the net by Troy and Ian Parliament; the second by Derek from Jon and Glenn and the third by Adam J. from to reach a loose puck. Veteran Dave Justynski and partner Matt Cracknell did some great blue line work in blocking Col- Adam H. and Jett' Ashton. The third period brought more of the same with Port scoring four more goals and Collingwood only two, to end the game at 15-6 in favor of the Legionaires. Adam J. scored his fifth goal of the game from Adam H. and Scott. What a game Adam had, five goals and three assists! Wow!! Jon then delivered a crushing body check after flipping the puck to Seth who wasted no time in scoring. Derek and Casey scored with assists on both goals going to Seth and Jon. P Port now have a 2-0 series lead with the third game in Col- lingwood on Feb. 26 and the fourth game in Port Perry on March 4 at9 p.m. Novice house league An early 6 a.m. start saw Port Perry Printing come up the win- ner against Van Camp Con- tracting. Van Camp was able to keep the Printers scoreless un- til Patrick Lewis scored at 2:53 of the second period. The as- sists went to Greg Hunter and Derek Bond. Other goal scorers were Jonathan Breen with one and Derek Bond with a pair. The assists were credited to Devon Howsam and Alex McKay. Joseph Kozlinsky for Van- Camp came up with numerous good saves but goaltender Mark Lott for the Printers turned away all the VanCamp players efforts. Re/Max was the winner in the match up against Haugens. Goals and assists for Re/Max were: Stuart Cochrane with a hat trick and an assist, Tyler Lee a pair and an assist, Clay- ton Gilmore with a goal and an assist, Justin Koury with a goal and two assists. Chris Milligan was netminder for Re/Max. For Haugen's Justin Shinn had a pair, Jesse Mischtian one goal and Shane Jeffrey had two assists as well as Kevin Gloster. Russell Lee also had an assist. Scala meets Emiels by John Bacon Scala vs. Emiels In the second last game be- fore the playoffs both teams came out and played good hock- ey. Action was back and forth in all periods. The goal tending was excellent for Emiels by Jon Chambers and for Scala by Jer- emy Hall. Outstanding hustle went to Jerid Aldridge and Todd Mitch- ell for Scala and Cam Cooper and Mark Delaney for Emiels. Scala came out on top this game with the win. Goals for Emiel's were scored by Tim Wray, Chad Lance, Reid McTaggart, Ben Russel. Goals for Scala went to Greg Bruton (1), John Bacon (2), Jer- emy Pere (2), Jamie Page (1) and Murphy Irvine (1). Defensively, Joel Tompson was a force to be reckoned with in showing some nifty stick handling and partner Tim Jones made a nice spin-move to evade a forechecker and then make a crisp outlet pass to his winger. As always, "Bart" was there to stonewall any chances the Collingwood boys were able to muster. Nice win guys! Port jumped into an early lead and were up 4-0 at the end of the first period. Gavin Baxter got the first from the slot after a nice feed from Robert Gracie and Ryan Puckrin. The second goal came as Aaron Levy made a heads up pass to Matt Baxter who blasted one by the Ux- bridge goalie. Port went up by 3 on an end to end play by de- fenceman Trevor Smith with Matt Blowe, and Matt Baxter assisting. At the 1:02 mark Ga- vin Baxter potted another one. Assisting was Robert Gracie and Mike Heasman. In the second period the stars went up by two more with Ga- vin Baxter kéeping the pressure on as he netted his third of the game. Uxbridge managed a short-handed goal as Port took a rash of penalties in the second period. Port's final goal was a great effort with Robert Gracie and Matt Philips feeding Todd Par- ry in the slot for a one-timer. Both teams played hard in the third but couldn't connect with the mesh. Port defeated Uxbridge 6-1 to take the series. Minding the net was Jamie Trick doing a stand up job. Good luck in the next series.
