"A Family Tradition for 127 Years" PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, January 25,1994 - 11 Walleye tourney on lake Feb. 5- By John Ellis Feb. 5 and 6 are the days. Thousands in cash and mer- chandise is a part of the game. The other part of the game is to be the lucky angler. "Say What?" you say. The 3rd Annual Scugog Firefighters Walleye Tournament starts at 12:01 a.m. Feb. 5, 1994 and runs until Feb. 6, 1994 at noon. This year there are some ex- citing changes. Included in the changes is a weigh station in Port Perry to go along with the Caesarea weigh station. An- other change is a reduction in ticket price for youths 16 and under. This special ticket price will be $5. A list of rules and regulations will be posted at each weigh sta- tion. But, in brief, I would like to pass on some of the most impor- tant ones! 1. Tickets must be purchased AfterLoss' Learning bow to cope with grief D p - Questions & Answers about grief recovery* Q. I read somewhere that men are apt to suffer more from a spouse's death than women. Is this true? A. tis usually true if you ask a man. lc is usually not true if you ask a woman. Both sexes experience the same grief process and the same emotions. The differences lie in the kind of social support that is available. It is custom- ary in our society for men to rely on their wives for social plans, grown children, etc. When a wife dies, the widower not only loses his primary relationship but his social relationship as well. He may be less able or will- ing to recreate these connec- tions for himself, and there- fore isolation may be a pat- tern that evolves for him. *Questions from bereavement classes are answered here by the editor of AfterLoss, the month- ly grief-recovery help letter. Environmental video night at Port high school Jan. 27 On Thursday, Jan. 27 there will be a free showing of the vid- eo "Manufacturing Consent," an examination of the views of Noam Chomsky, American au- thor, linguist, and, according to some, the most important intel- lectual alive today. Chomsky contends that American society is not really democratic at all, and that the mass media in the U.S. deliberately keep the aver - age citizen in the dark as to how their society really works. His views are both provocative and fascinating.
