Port held on to win 5-4. ) KELLY LOWN/PORT PERRY STAR MoJacks move into second The Port Perry ModJacks grabbed two more points Sun- day night to move into sole pos- session of second place with 36 points. The 5-2 win over Bobcaygeon at home Sunday night moved the ModJacks two points up on Uxbridge and three behind first place Bowmanville Eagles. Port jumped out to a 1-0 first period lead on a goal by Steve Laird. Kevin McDonald and Clair Cornish added assists on the play. The ModJdacks added three goals in the second, one each by McDonald, Duane Empring- ham and Keith Leslie. Assists on the goals went to Shannon Todd, Laird, Cornish, Ian Tit- terton and Todd Dennis. Bobcaygeon scored their two goals of the match in the second period off the sticks of Ryan Pogue and Paul Flint. The ModJdacks added one more goal in the third as Titterton Silver medals From Page 29 pass from Katherine and snuck in through the defense to tie the game at 3-3. But again, Kingston came right back to take the lead. But, our girls kept up the fight and with Jill playing in top form and getting better with each game with several key saves, put the pressure on for the equalizer. And we got it with Sheena mak- ing a pass to Stacey who cut in for the net and beat their goalie with a shot to the corner. Kingston scored the go-ahead and winning goal with just over five minutes eft. Our girls tr 2d their best and just missed or. couple of scor- ing chances and even with Jill pulled in last minute for the ex- tra attacker, the Kingston de- fense held their ground. But a real thriller of a game and a treat to watch from the stands. It was a strong effort from the whole team and defensively and offensively, things are coming together. And since moving back, Shannon Warriner has improved with each game and played her best Ringette this weekend. And that goes for the other 12 players too. And the se- cret to success, hard work and practice, practice, and more practice. Congratulations girls, let's keep on truckin'. Although Port Perry had home ice advan- tage, Oshawa took an early one goal lead in the first period. Port quickly evened the score in the second as Shane Norton scored with Todd Parry assist- ing on the play. Oshawa came back to take the lead. Less than two minutes later Ryan Puck- rin popped one in on a setup from Matt Blowe and Mike Heasman. It was Port's turn to take the lead when Matt Phil- lips showed us what an amaz- ing wrist shot he has as he blast- ed one in the top corner sending the water bottle for a loop. Oshawa wasn't giving up with 2:36 left in the second peri- od they scored tyingit up 3-3. In the third period Oshawa showed confidence taking the lead again. Techstars didn't back down as they turneditup a notch. Matt Baxter took advan- tage of the powerplay intercept- ing an Oshawa clearing pass and handed it to Shane Norton who wasted no time tying the score. Both teams traded rush- es but neither goalies were about to give one away. Port struck again when Ashley VanSchelven scored the win- ning goal 5-4. Jamie Trick played well between the pipes keeping Port in the game. On Friday, Jan. 14 the Tech- star Bantams played a makeup game and beat Uxbridge 10-1. The ice was clearly on a tilt with most of the play in the Uxbridge zone. Matt Phillips was the cat- alyst in this victory scoring three goals, Robert Gracie net- ted two goals, singles went to Gavin Baxter, Matt Blowe, Shane Norton, Trevor Smith and Mike Heasman. : Drawing assists were Ryan Puckrin, Aaron Levy, Todd Par- ry and Brad Shanley. The de- fence moved the puck from their zone quickly and effectively and kept the pressure on opposing forwards. Great game! Doormen lose at home On Tuesday, Jan. 11 the Scu- gog Overhead Doors Peewee "B" hockey club travelled down the 115 to scenic Peterborough. This was the Doors second game against Peterborough in as many days. Port took the play to Peterbo- rough right from the drop of the puck with Gainey, Pelyk and Kinnunen flying into the Peter- borough zone and setting it up well with Jeff Neal and Brad Johnston on the blue line. They hammered away at the Peterbo- rough goal but came away emp- ty handed. Port struck first at 11:57 when Ryan Moynes put a nice pass over to Travis Pickard deep in the Peterborough zone in front to Nick Pelyk in the slot and he fired it to the top corner to give Port Perry the lead 1-0. Port kept the heat on Peterbo- rough and Jeff Neal cut loose a hard slap shot at the 10 minute mark that grazed the far past. The play was end to end with Port Perry holding a slight edge in play. Then Peterborough had to come up with a good save on Justin Sheehey after he was set up perfectly in front by David Gainey and Blayne Kinnunen. At the halfway mark of the peri- od Nick Pelyk was in all alone on the Peterborough goalie but got robbed by a fast glove hand. Port was still taking it to Peter- borough at 8:06 when Scott San- derson delivered a big hit in the Peferborough corner and took control of the puck out front to ~ Travis Pickard and Blayne Kin- nunen but was robbed again. With 3:56 remaining in the first period Peterborough scored to tie the game at 1-1. There wasn't anyone scoring in the first period. Both goaltend- ers were playing well. Port Perry started the second period with some good rushes but the Peterborough goaltend- er was up to the challenge. Ryan Moynes let a booming slap shot go from the point but the goalie came up big again at 14:05. Da- vid Gainey sent Justin Sheehey in on the Peterborough goalie but went away shaking his head. Brad Johnston was trying his luck at defence this game and doing a nice job at it. Port Perry had a two man advantage for al- most a minute but Peterbo- rough got out of the jam unhurt. Peterborough scored at 6:34 to take a 2-11lead even though to this point they had been out- played. Peterborough took ad- vantage of the goal as the mo- mentum changed in Peterborough's favor for the last three minutes of period two. Blayne Kinnunen grabbed a loose puck at the Peterborough blue line and went in all alone on the Peterborough goal and got robbed by a good pad save. There wasn't anymore scoring in period two with Peterbo- rough heading 2-1. Port Perry came out flat in the third period as the six games in the past four days were probable starting to take its toll. Peterborough scored at 14:49 and 13:14 to take a com- manding 4-1 lead. Peterbo- rough was taking advantage of the tired Port Perry team and forcing the Port Perry goalie to make save after save to try and keep the game respectable. Port Perry isn't noted for hav- ing teams that quit and neither did the Overhead Doors. Travis Pickard took control of a Peter- borough pass at centre, in the Peterborough zone to Deryk Campbell to Justin Sheehey in front as he slipped it in the cor- ner past the sliding goaltender tomakeita4-2 game at 6:37. The referee's told both bench- es that the last six minutes was going to be running time and a Peterborough player got decked along the boards and couldn't get up for four minutes. When play got underway again Port pulled their goalie for the last two minutes in favor of an extra attacker but lady luck wasn't in North Crest Arena as Peterbo- rough defeated Scugog Over- head Doors by a 4-2 count. Nice try boys. Happy birthday Shawn. Port Perry was Corey Branton. Honrable mention for good hustle went to one knee Gainey and Blayne Kinnunen and Brad Johnston and Jeff Neal got the nod for good defensive effort.
