The Doorsmens first game was at 11 a.m. against the al- ways stubborn Uxbridge Pee- wee Il team. The game started with some nice neutral ice hockey with both teams using the boards well for some "nice to meet you" body checks. Both teams had some good rushes going, only to be "denied" by the defense. At 7:40, Uxbridge came from be- hind the Port Perry net looking for the rap around and boom!! he got smacked on his "butt" by a Nick Pelyk bodycheck and af- ter the collision there was only one player sliding backwards on the seat of his pants and it wasn't Pelyk. The Doorsmen put one on the scoreboard first at 6:30 when Blayne Kinnunen put a pretty pass over to David Gainey in the slot and tucked it under a slid- ing goaltender to take the early lead 1-0. Alex Wordley was patrolling the boards well handing out some solid body checks and making Uxbridge keep their heads up. Port struck again at 4:30 when Deryk Campbell in- tercepted an Uxbridge pass deep in the Uxbridge zone and hit Brad Johnston cruising in the slot, over to Alex Wordley at the side of the net as he makes no mistake and scores to give Port a two goal lead. With the period winding down and 2:41 'showing on the clock, Uxbridge scored to close the gap to 2-1. The period ended with Port Perry outshooting Uxbridge 7- 2 The second period got going quickly when Uxbridge tried to penetrate the Port Perry zone but all three sets of defensemen were playing well, turning rush after rush away empty handed. (Scott Harper, Chris Jones, Aa- ron Chambers, Ryan Moynes, Jeff Neal and Ryan McQuade). Both teams were playing well and a lot of good forechecking was displayed. At 6:30, Port was setting up inside the Ux- bridge blueline and Jeff Neal put a nice pass over to Ryan McQuade in front to David Gai- ney as he fires one low to the far corner to beat the Big Uxbridge goalie cleanly to take a 3-1lead. There was no more scoring in the second period as Port Perry outshot Uxbridge 10-2. : Port Perry opened the third period taking the play right to Uxbridge. Blayne Kinnunen was playing good two way hock- ey and also handing out some big hits. At 11:43 Brad John- ston picked the pockets of an Uxbridge player coming out of his own zone, in the corner to Travis Pickard who took it around behind the Uxbridge net, out front to Nick Pelyk and "he scores!" With Port Perry out in front 4-1, Port was going to play defensive hockey right? Wrong! Port turned it up a notch and came at Uxbridge again and again. Earlier in the game Justin (Cat) Sheehey used up one of his nine lives after taking a crush- ing hit along the boards. With the period winding down and Port in control, Justin Sheehey let a hard shot go from the point to score a shorthanded unas- sisted goal to give Port a 6-1 lead. k Uxbridge scored at 6:59 to make the final score 6-2 for Port. Port Perry outshot Ux- bridge 10-3 in the third period. Playing in goal for Port Perry was Michael MacLennan. Port now plays Stouffville at 4 p.m. in the semi finals. Honorable mention for good hustle goes to Blayne Kinnunen and Alex Wordley and the nod for good defensive effort goes to Scott Harper and Aaron Cham- bers. Scugog Overhead Doors vs Stouffville The first period started with Stouffville taking the play right to Port Perry. The period was a good period of fast hockey with Stouffville having the edge in play outshooting Port Perry 15- 3 with no scoring for either team. In the second period Stouff- ville didn't let up on their pres- sure nor did Port Perry "give up either." Port kept trying to get something going but the Stouff- "Overhead Door Peewees play in Peterborough tourney ville forecheckers were continu- ally breaking up their rushes. With the period winding down and still no score, the "referee" called a (cheap) five minute pen- alty. This proved to be too much of a load for the busy Port Perry team to carry as Stouffville scored twice on the power play in the five minutes to take a 2-0 lead. The Port Perry defense and their goaltender were really try- ing to dig in, but when push came to shove, the man advan- tage really made a difference. Stouffville outshot Port Perry in the second period 11-1. Stouffville and Port Perry were both playing very hard be- cause they knew quite well that the winner would advance to the big dance and take on Lind- say for all the marbles. With the score 2-0 Stouffville got nailed for a five minute penalty of their own with just 4:40 remaining in the game but the penalty came too late as the red machine was nearly out of gas. With 2:01 left in the game, David Gainey had a breakaway on the Stouffville goal and the referee missed it when a Stouffville player (threw?) his stick and knocked the puck off Gainey's stick and harmlessly into the corner. That was all she wrote for the Doorsmen as Stouffville won by a 2-0 score. Stouffville outshot Portin the third period 10-7. Playing in goal for Port Perry was Corey Branton. ; Honorable mention for good hustle goes to David Gainey and good defensive effort goes to goaltender Corey Branton. Big V, Larocque meet in Peewee house league The second game of the day featured Big V and Larocque with Larocque coming away with their first win of the sea- son. Period one and two showed, even in play as well as on the scoreboard. Ken Ellis scored the game's first goal on a fine pass from Steve Martin. Larocque answered back in the second pe- riod on a goal by Brad Monsma unassisted. The third period saw Larocque pressing very hard the whole period with four goals to their credit. Joel Phoenix scored two goals with assists going to David Crouter and Jeff Harison. Ryan Fraser had no chance on the fourth goal as Jon Sanders left alone in front of the net put a backhand shot in the top cor- ner. The final goal of the game came from a nice defensive pass from Keith Hancock to Greg Bruton who made no mistake. on this one. Big V goaltender Ryan Fraser saw a lot of rubber and man- aged to turn aside many more scoring opportunities. The good hustler award for Big V goes to Steve Martin for his two-way play and strong forechecking. It was very hard to pick a good hustler award for il. as their win was a fine team effort from goaltender Tom Keeble through to their forwards.
