La 34 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 23,1993 The Auctioneers took to the ice Friday night against Port Hope and came up with a strong game, winning 3-0. Thomas Lee had little work this game but came up strong when was called upon, to record the shutout. Port Perry opened the scoring at 11:20 of the first period on a goal by Jeff Tarbot- tom, assisted by Spencer Churchill. There were numer- ous chances by the Port Perry squad, only to be foiled by the Port Hope goalie. Having excel- lent chances for Port Perry were Trevor Lance, Mark Duncan and Justin Moffatt. The Auctioneers scored twice in the second period, another by Jeff Tarbottom unassisted, and the third goal scored by Kevin PPHS sporting news By Mindi Yake Readers, I beg you to bear with me, I'm not a sports writer but a player. 'I'm sure every- body has a love for something. It could be a sport, the arts, or even guys orin guy's case, girls. What I'm getting at is when you lose something you really want- ed or really cared about, it hurts right? | Well, I'm one of the lucky girls that got picked to play with some excellent players. I was coached by an excellent coach, In my point of view. You have to understand the players to un- derstand how we feel. At the beginning we all came from different schools and had different training. At the begin- ning of our season we were a group of girls with just that, dif- ferent training. We were a me- diocre team. As the season pro- gressed, Miss Bate, our coach pulled us together like wonder- Kobins, assisted by Jamieson Smith. Defensively, Port Perry domi- nated with Dylan Harper, Ste- ven MacLennon and Gordon Smith containing the Port Hope team, holding them to just three shots. Especially effective were Michael Thompson and Geof- frey Simpson battling the boards. Garrett Brown re: turned to the lineup and let his presence be felt. This team continues to gain valuable experience with each passing game. I would like to extend a thank you to the par- ents/fans who give their loyal support game in and game out, and also those early morning practices. Keep up the good ef- ort. woman. She made us a team. We played her way, by her rules, and surprise - we came from being a losing team to be- ing tied for first place. On Nov. 17 we played Brock High School, and all of our team was hoping to bring Port Perry High School the LOSSA pen- nant. We started out the game by falling behind, then closed the gap near half time. In the end, we lost after a great effort to bring our score up. The score was 51-44. : I'd like to say that althoug we didn't win LOSSA, like we'd hoped, we did try and put in a huge effort. I'd like to thank Port Perry High School's Mid- get Girls Basketball team and our wonderful, understanding coach Miss Bate. Good games girls; I loved playing with you. To the other schools who beat us - watch out because next year we'll be looking for first place.
