Scugog Chamber of Commerce on verge of disbanding group By Julia Dempsey . Port Perry Star The Scugog Chamber of Com- merce may disband if directors cannot be found to fill its vacant seats. And if it dissolves, so will many of the special events that shape the community, such as the Santa Claus Parade, Festi- val Days, and the Canada Day celebrations. As well as organizing the spe- cial events, the Chamber of Commerce runs the Tourist In- formation Booth, brings the Kelly Millar Circus to town bi- annually, and offers a group 1n- surance plan forits members. The idea to disband the cham- ber was brought forward by the organization's president at a Chamber of Commerce meeting Thursday morning. "I don't want it to get that far," Scugog Chamber of Com- merce president Bill Dowson told the Port Perry Star. "But the problem is mainly manpow- er. We don't have enough people to do the jobs required to work as achamber." He said the chamber's consti- tution requires the board to have 15 directors. Three direc- tors have stepped down during the present term and seven di- rectors have said they won't be returning to their seats when Turn to page 4 Santa visits B Seven-year-old Holly Tucker of Prince Al ig V openin ve for d FE PASE oo Sn tor ArT NE ree rn ET mp ane me Bf Po erty AS AA rt (right) was ng J the 300 childfen who had thelr picture taken with Santa Claus during the "official opening celebrations at Big V drugs store last weekend.
