10 - PORT PERRY STAR - Tuesday, November 23,1993 Marriage counsellor says business has been very steady "Scugog's Community Newspaper of Choice" bj RR a -- ---- By Scott Anderson Port Perry Star A marriage counselling ser- vice which opened its doors last month is doing well, a cotunsel- ° lor says. : Theo Selles, operator of Port Perry Therapy Services, said he: has had'good response since he opened in October. The clinic's services include marriage counselling, healing from abuse, depression and sui- cide intervention, grief healing, and parent-child relationship. Although he would not com- ment on the number of clients he has met with since opening, he said "I have had good re- sponse to date." With the intention to make his service affordable and ac- cessible to all, Mr. Selles has de- veloped a two-tier sliding scale for payment. Under an agreement with the Pineridge Family Counselling Assistance Centre, Mr. Selles has devised a payment formula based on ability to pay. The system allows a client to pay a specified amount of mon- ey according to income, with the remainder covered by Pine- ridge. This fee schedule is tailor- made to the individual's own budget. Mr. Selles said this structure assures that nobody is denied access to the service. "Basically, I don't have to turn people away because they can't afford it," he said, Mr. Selles is also seeking fi- nancial help from the provincial - government. He 'is not seeking grants, but is looking for rein- bursement of fees accumulated. He has been in contact with various ministers including Health Minister Ruth Grier, David Christopherson, Solicitor General and Minister of Correc- tional Services, and Tony Silipo, Minister of Community and So- cial Services, seeking additional aid as well. Mr. Selles said he is trying to make the service as accessible as possible by offering the ini- tial meeting free of charge. This enables them to determine whether or not they are in need of his services and understand the fee structure. "When people have had a chance to talk to me, they have felt a lot more optimistic about themselves and their situa- tion," he said. Mr. Selles can be reached at 985-0642.
