Musical evening Nov. 7 Despite the rainy weather over the weekend, the folks on Scugog Island kept busy. It was great to see so many boys out on Saturday for the Scouts Canada Apple Day. A beautiful wedding ceremo- ny was held at Scugog Island United Church on Saturday, Oct. 16 uniting Tammy Free- man and Michael Callahan. Tammy is the daughter of Roy and Betty Ann Freeman. Best wishes to Tammy and Michael from your Scugog Island friends. Visitors at Bonnie Gerrow's last Saturday were her three sisters, Joy Larkey, Bradford; Fean Brown, Stevensville; Nor- ma Young, Meaford; and a friend, Mary Moses of Oshawa. Recent visitors at Bob and Madeline Cawker's-were Made- line's brother, Arthur Walker and his wife Helen from Bor- den, Sask. and Helen's sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Ron Flemming from Saska- toon, Sask. Five days weren't long enough for all they wanted to do and talk about. Our sympathy goes out to the Brock family on the passing of Mrs. Marguerite Brock. A beau- tiful floral tribute was placed in Scugog Island United Church by the Mississaugas of Scugog Island in memory of Mrs. Brock. It is Public Library Week at our local Library. There will be a display of art from Native Per- spectives at the Library this week. The "Scugog Strings" will be playing at the Library on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. The "Golden Slippers" will also per- form at the Library on Thurs- day, Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. Check with the Library for other activ- ities plannéd. Scugog Island Women's Institute The Scugog Island Women's Institute will meet on Wednes- day, Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. at the Is- land" Hall. Carol Meek will speak on Wills and Power of At- torney. All ladies of the commu- nity are welcome to join us. Scugog Island United Church, 19100Island Road The Lectionary Bible Study will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at S.1.U.C. Choir practice will be held on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m. The Youth Group will meet on Friday, Oct. 22, 6-7:30 p.m. at S.I.U.C. Youth in Grades 6-8 are welcome. Scugog Island United Church will celebrate their anniversary on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. (note time). Rev. Philip Whit- ney will be our guest speaker. He is the Chaplain at Oshawa General Hospital. Every year, we look forward to special mu- sic. This year our special music will be provided by our three groups, the "Men's Quartet", the "Scugog Island United Church Choir" and the "Orches- tra". Police seeking help in Leaksdale robbery Crime Stoppers and the Dur- ham Regional Police are asking for the public's help in solving several Break, Enter and Theft occurrences which took place in Leaskdale on Wednesday, June 16. During the late evening hours on the 16th and the early morning on the 17th of June, five houses in the Town of Leaskdale were broken into. Three victims live on Oxtoby Lane and had their garages and sheds entered and the security system on one of the homes was tampered with. Stolen was a red Honda sump pump, Schi- mano fishing rod and a black Mohawk tackle box, a Stihl model 034 chainsaw, and a quantity of cash was removed from one of the vehicles parked in the garage. Suspects also entered a house on Scott Court through the rear door. The victim's purse was tound 1n the backyard minus some cash. The fifth Break and Enter occurred on Regional Road 1 and was similar to the Scott Court occurrence. Crime Stoppers is asking anyone with information on these Break and Enters or any serious crime to call. Durham Region houses have been victi- mized on several occasions and Crime Stoppers would welcome any information regarding these thefts. As a caller you will not be asked t6 identify yourself or have to.go fo court. A cash reward of up to $1,000 is being offered if your tip leads toan arrest. Fitness program The City of Oshawa, Commu- nity Services Department in conjunction with the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Recre- ation is hosting the Fitness On- tario Leadership Program (F.O.L.P.) - The Basics on Nov. 5,6,7and 20, 21.
