"We had a number of con- cerns, because there was no one ina management postion at the arena," said Marilyn Pearce, Ward 2 Councillor and Parks and Recreation Committee Chairman. The suggestion to restructure arena management, stems from recent and ongoing concerns from the arena board, Scugog Township Council and the Parks and Recreation Commit- tee. "We decided to try Allan. He was the recreation co-ordinator for the summer programs this year, where he was very suc- cessful in making the programs run at far less of a deficit," Coun- cillor Pearce said. "We are giving him a chance to co-ordinate the programs at the arena and see if things can run a little smoother, adminis- tration-wise," she added. Mr. Pollock's job will be to see if he can bring down the deficit that the arena is currently working at, as well as to be someone for the public to ap- proach. "My first priority is tosetup a management plan to determine the needs at the arena, and to classify the priorities," Mr. Pol- lock told the Star. "I would (also) like to empha- size public relations. My goal is wl be in the public eye," he add- e The arena has never had a solid management presence be- fore. It will now be a lot more clearly defined than it has been in the past years, Mr. Pollock said. Allan Pollock In the past, operational and management duties were han- dled together, and Mr. Pollock says with him there, it will re- lieve some of the pressure. With his presence at the are- na, he hopes to sway the arena's reputation back to one which "lets the public know we are there to help." Mr. Pollock set up office last week and will be at the arena Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to an- New face at arena swer any administration ques- tions, or any questions the pub- lic may have. He may remain at the arena the entire season, depending on the effectiveness of any changes which are made. "He will be there for sure until Christmas, when we will review it and see if his being there is making a difference," Council- lor Pearce said.
